Thornton High School has some of the finest teachers in the suburbs. Teachers that are dedicated to their job, especially when dealing with the 'urban poor'. They are sensitive to the needs of the students. However, the extra curriculum activities are not well attended by the majority of students.

When I first moved to the south suburban area, I was unsure about coming to a place where the high school would be similar to the Chicago Public School from whence we'd just come. I was told that Thornton would be a placed filled with negativity, which speaks to the fact that noone believes that change
... Read more is able to come to a place that once was frowned upon. I'm very pleased to say that I feel confident in deciding to allow my children to enroll in District 205. I really appreciate the help and assistance of Ms. Butler who so mild-manneredly walked me through the process of registration and all the other things that come along with that. She was very patient and understanding to my needs. She is definitely a shining light in Thornton, although she's moved on to another area at the school. I'm expecting even greater things! Read less

My kids attend during 2007-2008, they had honor classes, they learned much, their teachers were caring and very helpful and I feel put their all in their education. The principal is great, and does not tolerate misbehavior nor bad teaching. There is not a lot of parent involvement, but we are working

I say that this school has came a long way! They do have some errors they need to correct, but as far as learning it is up to the students. The teachers they are great, they are doing their job. The promblem is that these kids are not doing their jobs, which is learning. So to me this school gets a 96%.

With the new principal, Thornton HS has done a complete turn around! She is great! Her priority is to have high expectations for student academics and behavior. She does not play around...she will not tolerate any disruption to the learning environment. She holds her teachers accountable, supports
... Read more their needs, and aids them in becoming better at what they do. She truely cares and the school atmosphere has changed dramically within the last two years. Students should feel safe and secure, cared for, and respected. She and many of the teachers are firm, but fair. Great things are happening in this school and anyone attending should be proud to be a Wildcat. The 'wildcat' has been a sleep in all staff members and students, but now she has come to wake them up and let them 'roar' with their pride, excellence, and dedication. Read less

Parent involvement is not at a high and steady level.Extracurricular activities are great but are threatened to be cut on combined with various school because of budget cuts and the district does not spend the money wisely.Academic programs are at fair quality and could be better.
