Suder Montessori is one of three CPS Montessori schools in Chicago. Suder seems to be in the shadow of Drummond Montessori and Mayer mainly because it is not in an 'it' neighborhood. She worked very hard with Suder Montessori's first 3rd grade class. I would like to congratulate these third graders, they made us all very proud. These are only the preliminary schools which means they will probably be higher when all the results are in. The total composite scores were 82.6 with the majority exceeding test norms. Part 4 The Chinese is a funding problem through cps. Ms. Chen was very good but got no respect from the last administration. May blame be laid on the last administration for the inconsistency of the Chinese program. Possibly if it was strong from the start we would have had a better outcome. Many times

I am a parent of a child at Suder. I have struggled in the last year to try and figure out if the staff was teaching Montessori methods or the ISAT. I don't want to blame the administration, but I don't no who else would be responsible. Inconsistent homework assignments and different teaching methods

I remember when she came to this school in 2006. We were promised smaller classrooms but she is now in a class with 29 other students. This is a classic example of be careful what you wish for. Most of the parents did not like Dr. Hammond strict demands of the teaching staff and curriculum being total Montessori. Now you have a principal using trial and error! Read less

The new administration doesn't know Montessori teaching. Everything is an experiment. This year the new administration only focused on the ISAT using different teaching methods. It's all about test scores not your child. The children were overwhelmed and communication with parents was reactive. Homework

How this school started with a principle with a PHD and ended up with Ms. Bloom (PHD?) is beyond me. I would only recommend this school to parents with a stay at home parent with time for this school's growing pains. Keep this in mind. If you get a bad teacher in this school, your child will have a bad teacher for 3 yrs. They group 1-3rd graders, etc. What's going on with the afterschool program and the Chinese language they promised? Read less

The administration at the school guards information like it's classified and takes itself much too seriously to be a school going only to the 2nd grade. Huge thanks to the PTA for making suder more welcome to parent participation. The truth about Suder's effectiveness will come out next year when the new 3rd grade will test. Read less
