Read more the junior high level kids (5th-8th), some parents and/or students may say that they expect to much or give out to much homework but in reality they expect just enough and give out just enough homework. They do that so then the students are well prepared when they enter high school. The fact that St. Mary's is a very catholic oriented and makes that a big part of the school helped me grow in my faith more then ever. It's a great school keep up the great work! Read less

The quality of academics is lax. We came from a public academy school that emphasized science and math. Here it is encouraged but not mandatory to have a science fair and their school was two years behind our last school in math. This might be because parents complain that there is too much homework.
... Read more Well, they have no idea what it is like elsewhere. Many times, especially around the breaks there is no homework or it is so easy my child finishes it in school. There are alot of sports activities for the students and I love that. Yes, there are other extracurricular and music activities. The level of parent involvement is tremendous. Way to Go Mary's! The level of academics at this school varies from grade to grade. There are some teachers particularly at the 5th to 8th grade level that are experienced not only their area of expertise, but can command an atmosphere of learning in all subjects. However, these teachers are far and few.

At St.Mary Star of the Sea, the classrooms are overcrowded especially the 8th grade. There are 32 children in each homeroom. The teachers assign way to much homework every night. The Principal is great and so is the parish but a few a of the teachers in higher grade levels expaect too much.

The mathematics portion of both my children's education here at St. Mary's was ATROCIOUS! Since WHEN is it EVER in the student's best interests to be instructed by the TEACHER to find the answers to at least 50% of the assigned homework problems in the back of the textbook? Read more NOT to grasp the actual concept of the math problem, thereby dis-enabling them from actually KNOWING how to solve that particular type of math problem ON THEIR OWN (ie with their accumulated classroom/book/homework knowledge?) Additionally, even HIGH HONOR ROLL student graduates of this school have had MAJOR, SERIOUS mathematical conceptualization and/or problem-solving issues upon being enrolled in their first High School math class at ANY high school, much less one of a very high academic standard and reputation. Advanced Placement
AP classes are college-level classes offered at the high school level. Once a student completes an AP class and passes a final comprehensive examination conducted by the College Board, the student earns college credit for the course. Adult Education Classes
Programs offering GED or equivalent courses for adults within regular schools, whether classes are held during evening or daytime schedules.
