WHAT HAPPENED? The morale at S.C.A. is gone. Most of the teachers just don't care anymore. When dealing with children you need a more loving enviroment. Don't misunderstand me, discipline is good. But, is this a military school or what? Academics is first, however ,outside of that children need downtime
... Read more and an outlet. The extra-curricular activities are limited. There is no playground for recess. There is one set price for books. We don't have a choice to buy new or used. You have the nerve to collect them at the end of the year & recycle them the next. We pay book & activity fees yet we still pay for additional reading material and costly field trips. My twins have just completed Kindergarten and their second year at SCA. As a Chicago Public Schools Teacher, I consciously decided to send them to SCA because of the strong academic program, consistency of school leadership and the community climate. ... Read more is second to none. Both of my children can read at or above a second grade level, complete basic math computations and have mastered most of the words on the Dolch Sight Word List. I have two children who attend this school and I am very disappointed in the direction of the school. My oldest just completed the third grade and it was a complete waste of money. My children have been at Salem for 6 years and I cannot recommend this school to anyone. The higher grade level you reach

My daughter begin her academic life at Salem in the 3rd grade; it was a great year! I thought Salem was the best thing since sliced bread. I soon discovered I was quite wrong. The last two years have been awful and now I'm forced to move my child to another school. I would only recommend Salem to parent

My child is in the fourth grade this year and this as been the worse year to date. The new principal is unapproachable and very demeaning to parents and students. This is my childs last year at this school. For the money you spend on tuition, you would think the education would be top- rated. Think again!

I am the parent of a K5 student and I plan to send my now 2 year old to this school in September. SCA is very affordable. I like the fact that the teachers and principal have an open door policy. I'm also very impressed with the curriculum. I like the fact that my K5 student can read small words
... Read more and has a good understanding of phonics. She is even more excited than I am. She often picks up books that are lying around the house and tries to sound out the words on her own. Her attitude towards school has changed tremendously!!! Read less

I am the parent of a student in K4. I think SCA could use more maintenace, more outside lighting, and trained/professional security since the neighborhood is not the safest. I like the curriculum so far and am willing to give the new administration a chance. I do wish that the teachers would communicate
... Read more more with the parents, either by email or phone calls. The school could use a breakfast/lunch program and more extracurricular activities for students of ALL ages. There used to be chapel that lasted 1 1/2 hours that is now only 30 minutes. Chapel was the occasion where parents/teashers could celebrate the students accomplishments. The tuition is really reasonable but I have a fear that because the tuition is below the cost for most private schools, the education would become substandard. I am hoping that the administrative/teacer changes will be bring about positive results. Read less

Advanced Placement
AP classes are college-level classes offered at the high school level.
