I have read many of the comments posted here and two stand out the most: Discipline and academics. I attended PSM from 1993 until my high school graduation in 1999 and I now work as a teacher within CPS. There can not be quality education without discipline. The discipline the school provides in necessary

In life, once they leave PSM, the same expectations will be placed upon them. Why not teach them this early while they are in the safety of a school that cares about their future. One thing that has not been said is that students are not bothered my constant fighting, cursing and classroom disruptions that can make a child unfocused in school. The students are encouraged and pushed to do their best. Read less

My grandson is completing the Pre-K at Provident St. Mel. He has learned so much. He is reading! He has mastered phonemes and phonics. There is so much more I could say about what he has learned. The staff is loving but there is a highly disciplined environment and he needs it!

You have to take the good w/the bad. The rules are sometimes way over the top, but kids these days need them. The shools atmosphere is not warm. The principle and Mr. Adams does speak to or greet the people who keeps the school open(the parents). However, my lower school daughter loves the school and

I know lots of kids who went there and went on to excell in their careers. The school is not for everyone but it works for my daughter. The board needs to take some outside advice (from the parents). I believe it would make the school better. Read less

This school has it's good and it's bad. Or rather it's terrible and it's GREAT. Im sorry but i have to disagree with all the negative comments left about St. Mel. I am currently an 8th grader there and this school is great! We do not have to walk down the hallway with our hands behind our back. Neither do we have to be silent at lunch. Yes we do get alot of homework some days but

I am a graduate of Providence St. Mel's Class of 2008 and I believe that St. Mel is the school that works. It is not only the school that works in the sense of hard work and homework but in the sense that it is a great school. The school offers discipline along with motivation. The disciplinary actions

You cannot blame the school for disciplining your child because it would have never happened if you would. This is a great school, and I must say that the two years of middle school that I spent there were significant to my future. Unfortunately, the school's lack of diversity in students, classes, and extra curricular activities makes Providence very restrictive on student creativity and willingness to learn.

Most homework is busy work, and this busy work takes up the time the children and teens like myself could be doing activities that will make us happy, well-rounded people. In addition to this, various unnecessary disciplinary actions and regulations becomes incredibly encumbering to the student well-being. It is too stressful. Myself among the top achievers in my class, I feel that I can conclude that those who work hard (much more than necessary) and achieve are achieving at the expense of educational motivation.
