Hyde Park is by far one of the worst high schools in chicago. When i was a student at Hyde Park it seemed to me majority of the teachers did not care and showed no intrest in if their student was understandin the work or not. ... Read more if you passed or failed. I actually had a teacher get mad and yell at me because I said I didnt understand the problem. Those type of actions put alot a teenagers down includin mysself. Hyde Park staff was morried about what we had on then what we were learning. Overall Hyde Park needs a principal that will lead the school in the right direction. How can a school afford flat screens in a lunch room but there aren't enough books for every student. Inquiring minds want to know. Read less

I am currently a junior enrolled at Hyde Park, and quite frankly, I have not enjoyed the years spent there. The discipline in the school is very slack, and there is no peace because of the lack of effective security. I am in the IB program, and yet I am constantly doing the same level of work as 'demo'

I am a alumna from the graduating class of 1999. It was an okay school but there was some things that they could have improved. One is the quality of the math and science curriculum. I attended a good public university in Indiana and there was some things that I wished my school stressed on in math
... Read more and science. Had I have that, I would have done better in math and science. Granted I graduated from college, it seems I have to work much harder to improve my math skills. My son graduated from Hyde Park Career Academy in 2002. The teachers where excellent. They kept me informed of my son's progress and treated us like family when we had problems. I give them an A for effort and wish them well in the future.

... Read more and academics in general. I've been back to visit HP twice since my departure, and I must say that things have drastically improved! Tons of things have changed -- new teachers, new principal, etc. However, judging by the test scores, it is evident that more work is needed -- specifically, teachers who are qualified and care enough about the students to make sure that they are not just able to regurgitate the material they learn, but can apply it so that they may be better prepared for the standardized tests. Other than the aforementioned, HP is a wonderful school, and can be even greater with the right kind of help. Read less

Advanced Placement
