We have two children attending Van Meter Elementary School. The children love school and they think they are learning a lot in social studies and in science this year. They are learning about the responsibities of homework and getting work completed on time. Two things they will need to know how to
... Read more so for most of their lives. I can't say enough about the kind, thoughtful teachers that are committed to the students learning. Van Meter is small school with big hearts. The parents and the community work together in a very positive way to educate and benefit all. Read less

For daycare convenience, we open enroll our children to Van Meter Schoools. The teachers here are genuinely concerned with our children's capablilities, participation, learning speed and attendance, and we just seem to like the idea of a K-12 School. ... Read more has to be made by the parents and children. We have been made to feel welcome by other parents and the staff at school even though we are fairly new to the area. This school keeps us informed of problem areas our children may have, and takes the time to encourage our children when they are on the right track. The school offers many of the usual sports to participate in, and encourages students to enroll in scouts and band, as well as other academic opportunities. A new addition to the school last year has been great for the kids. Our children enjoy going to school at Van Meter, and the bottom line is we know they are learning! What more could we ask for? This school is the hub of the growing rural community with programs designed with the students' needs and interests in mind. Very welcoming atmosphere with programs developed to include families in Family Nights, sports, fine arts, and volunteer activities. It is amazing how much this little school

High school seniors work as cadets in classrooms and develop a great rapport with the younger students and provide a lasting bridge of communication in this k-12 system. Staff is well-qualified and serve as leaders in professional organizations as well as active members of community service organizations. Read less

The school is OK but a little bit too hard on discipline on kids and overboard on detentions. You do not feel like [you] are welcomed unless you grew up in Van Meter and they seem to not really care about your opinions about your kid and their IEP because [you] give them suggestions and they never use

* In 2007-2008 Iowa used the Iowa Test of Basic Skills (ITBS) to test students in grades 3 through 8 in reading and math. The results for grades 4 and 8 are displayed on GreatSchools profiles. The scores reflect the performance of students enrolled for the full academic year. The ITBS is a norm-referenced test, which means it measures how well students in Iowa score in comparison to their peers nationwide. Advanced Placement
AP classes are college-level classes offered at the high school level. Once a student completes an AP class and passes a final comprehensive examination conducted by the College Board, the student earns college credit for the course. AP classes are specific and not to be confused with other higher-level classes such as honors classes.
Before/After School

Adult Education Classes
Programs offering GED or equivalent courses for adults within regular schools, whether classes are held during evening or daytime schedules.
