Finding a group of teachers and staff who devote themselves as comnpletely to students as these ones do is like finding a tiny piko shell on a huge beach. The teachers provide not only instruction, but a truly safe, caring environment where all students feel accepted and acknowledged. The feedback from

The school was once great, now it's dramatic and chaotic. The teachers (what's left of them) are wonderful and hardworking. The principle needs to be replaced in order to regain the 'ohana' feel the school is known for.

Lanikai is a wonderful school. Teachers are kind and caring and provide a supportive learning environment for their students. The administration is accessible and works hard to make Lanikai a wonderful place for children, parents, faculty and staff. You could not find a better place in Hawaii for your

However, there are a few old-timers , certain teachers who lack some professionalism. They are unhappy (resistant to change, not open to new and improved educational ideas) and spread their negativity to all who will listen namely parents. They are unhappy that the administration requires them to follow state standards, use a school wide assessment system, and produce lesson plans. I am so impressed with Lanikai PCS's leadership under Mr. David Sauceda. He entered Lanikai 3 years ago when Mr. Birkett left after being worn down by some disgruntled parents & a small handful of teachers and staff with their own personal agenda against his initiatives. He took over Lanikai during

He continues to work tirelessly with the Lanikai School Board, teachers, staff, parents, and the community to create a long-term view for the school in this new millenium. Do not believe the negative comments entered here. They are half-truths and not entirely accurate. They are not a true picture of our creative, positive school. We were so happy when our first child was accepted at Lanikai PCS. IT fit us so perfectly, even the new principal. Our 2nd child followed 2 years later and the school seemed to be thriving. Then Fred Birkett left. The three years we've endured under the new principal's leadership have demoralized us.

The teachers are unhappy, the curriculum has no flow between grades, the school feels more like it is run by a totalitarian government. I don't want my children taught by a miserable, bullied, trapped teacher. The school was touted as encouraging heavy parental input. I guess if you want to go in and gripe to the school sign, it will listen to you... but that's as far as you'll get. So we are leaving... Read less

I went out of my way to ensure my children attended Lanikai when we moved here. I knew that there were changes coming as the highly rated principal was leaving.
