As a teacher, let me tell you about some of the things I see everyday at Appling. The children at this school behave terribly and do not want to learn. They curse, make threats, sleep in class, and do poorly on very simple work. Out of 120 students, maybe 5 in each class actually want and try to learn.

appling middle is a great place to be, but Mr. Tompkins and Mrs. Hood were not the best principals, discipline was not a major roll at the school. I know now that the new principal Mrs. Jackson has a lot problems to deal with.

As being a student that attended Appling Middle School I dont think they provided enough education..meaning not having enough teachers. Mostly Appling had substitute teachers. For the first six weeks i didn't have a teacher because my supervision teacher had gang green in one of his feet. Then the next
... Read more six weeks came around and another teacher just up and left(laugage teacher)and we(eighth graders)had to take the writing test and we had no experience. I am not trying to degrade Appling but the school really needs the state to come in and run that school maybe it will be a better learning environment. Read less

I think Appling Middle is experiencing alot of problems. A few of my childs teachers have been substitutes. These individuals although nice most times do not have a college degree. Also the children are out of control, which causes limited learning for their peers. Lastly, the counsler is never available

The school profile results show that Appling Middle School under the leadership of the principal during this time frame yielded gains in student achievement. ... Read more years of experience as a principal was removed from the school and replaced with one that is a novice. Good leadership is important to students' success in schools. In a school with achievement scores that seem to be increasing, there certainly needs to be an administrator at the helm who has been a full fledged principal with a sound track record in preparing students to be high achievers. I have observed that Appling Middle School has several good teachers. Parents should look at the urban area and the strides that the teachers, students, and leaders must make to help our children reach the acheivement goals. Novice principals are not the persons to place in these positions. This change will prove to be detrimental for students. The right leader is important. Read less

Appling used to be a great school contrary to what others might have believed. However, lately, the discipline is awful at the school. There is no leadership. The children are running wild. There are still some great teachers at the school. If it wasn't for them, I would have moved.
