E.L. Bouie elementary school is one of the best elementary schools in Dekalb county. Another reason for the schools success is the fact that this is a 'choice' school meaning parents choose to let their children attend this school and with that choice parents have mandated volunteer hours to perform. This is a great idea because if forces parents to be involved in their children's school. Overall it has been a great experience for us. I now have two children there and there development, educational and socially has blossomed and I would recommend E.L Bouie to anyone who wants a private school education in a public school setting. We just concluded our second year at Bouie and I was sadened by the lack of a cooperative spirit from teachers and counselors. It had a 'class system' feel to the environment. I made every effort to be voulunteer and assist and still felt like an outsider. My child's social development digressed

This is my third year as a Bouie parent and I have been thoroughly disappointed. The leadership, as others has mentioned, leaves alot to be desired and there is tremendous stress being placed on students in order to maintain a reputation. So far I am really disappointed in the performance I see at Bouie Elementary. This is my daughters first year and I have not seen much progress in her academic success. The faculty encourages you to purchase a Notebook at the beggining of the year that is suppose to keep you informed of updates and a means of the teacher communicating with you, but everyday my daughters notebook is empty, the teacher doesn't not write in it at all. Basically this school is just all hype, there really is no difference in this school and any other public school. Read less

... Read more (and summer camp) is top notch!!! We've had the same after school program Director since I've been there and she is wonderful--- she loves the kids & it shows! Bouie is committed to developing future leaders of tomorrow! There are multiple programs and activities that encourage learning that s fun to the kids (Science Night & Math Night). I also love that there are special programs like Bouie's Progressive Young Males, a program for boys that encompasses etiquette, community service, college tours, and topics relevant to being a young man! My kindergarden daughter just completed her first year at Bouie Elementary.The school is Outstanding,Outstanding, Outstanding! She had an extraordinary teacher. Highly organized,nurturing and challenging (Ms.Oliver) I was extremely concerned about her first year in public school. Bouie did not disappoint!

This is my son's first year at Bouie, I like the parent teacher interaction in helping my child to grow. The parent involvement is a good opportunity for the community. My son has one more year in elementary, Bouie is the perfect choice when you want your child to get challenged. They are lacking

E.L. Bouie is a wonderful school to attend! I was a student at Bouie from grades 1-5 and those five years were excellent. The teachers strive to work hard to teach their students the proper way to learn at school. The parent involvement was magnificent! There were lots of parents everyday at Bouie working

Bouie's after school program (Firebirds Nest when I attended) was exciting and fun! The staff always made sure we did our homework and they checked it til it was all right. Overall, Edward L. Bouie Sr. Traditional Theme School is the best elementary school in DeKalb County and should be the first choice on your list to send your children for a higher education! Read less

Advanced Placement
