I am a parent to 3 kids at HFES and have been a part of this school since 2004. This is a wonderful school with teachers who truly care about their students. In addition there is a tremendous amount of parent involvement. I wont move from this area until all my kids have gone through this school.

... Read more time was calm, cool and collected. I saw Dr. Brooks especially displaying genuine concern for her students. I even saw a few tears shed from some teachers when the last buses pulled away for the last time. I would highly recommend this elementary school to anyone moving to the Canton area. Read less

... Read more population has been increasing over the years, the teachers and administration still manage to make sure that the children are valued as individuals, not as numbers or groups. Each teacher that has taught my children has been able, and willing, to adapt lesson plans to ensure that the girls are challenged and to motivate them to continue to reach new heights. ... Read more students are going to a new school so perhaps the class sizes will decrease. Teachers are highly skilled, friendly, caring and communicative. The administration does an excellent job of keeping the school safe, clean and fun. Pta/parent involvement is excellent. There is still a small town feel to the school although student population has grown substantially. The school is a happy place and had many fun activities throughout the year: fall festival, field day, etc. I have 3 children in hickory flat at present and they enjoy school and their teachers. The students need to be challenged, my kids never have homework and they are Honor Roll kids, I don't understand how? Maybe is to easy. Classrooms are to crowded, and the most important, very insecure for the kids, easy to go in and out, it's to open, even the playgrounds. Extracurricular activities

Teachers are IMO overwhelmed. As a parent, I'm constantly having to ask about availability of tutoring programs for my kids and have yet to see them placed in the programs. This school has incredible parental involvement and high calibre teachers. The school has grown, but still maintains its small town charm. Along with high standards of academics, they have a variety of cultural arts programs, computer labs and accomplished music,art and phys ed. depts.

Advanced Placement
