HMS is the only middle school in Marion Cty. that has the AAIT program(Magnet) both of my kids attend and the teachers and staff are the BEST you can find for keeping smart kids motivated and happy to learn.

This was my son's first year in middle school. He is very enthusiastic about learning by nature, but even more inspired by his teachers. Joining the band has given him great confidence and now he is learning new instruments and looks forward to extracurricular activities.

My daughter is a 6th grader in the magnet program and loves it. The teachers seem to have high expectations and a great deal of enthusiasm for their subject. We are very happy here.

The band rates superior and the art perennially places in local art shows. The parents are heavily involved ...  Read more

Florida
* In 2008-2009 Florida used the Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test (FCAT) to test students in grades 3 through 10 in reading and math; in grades 4, 8 and 10 in writing; and in grades 5, 8 and 11 in science. The FCAT Writing results are displayed separately on GreatSchools profiles. The FCAT is a standards-based test, which means it measures how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of Florida. The FCAT has 5 achievement levels, with level 1 being the lowest and level 5 the highest. Florida considers scores of level 3 and higher to be on or above grade level.
