We have been very happy with Clarcona Elementary. Our son has been there 3 years and each year he's had a teacher that goes above and beyond. The staff seemed to be almost secretive regarding activities rather than enthusiastically accepting dual parent involvement. This does not impress me. Especially since the school motto alleges teamwork between the school and parents to be their creed.

Quality of academic programs are good. There are a lot of improvement plans for students who are struggling. There is music and art, but no sports or other extracurricular activities. Level of parent involvement is poor and the attitudes of the administrative staff is poor.

* In 2008-2009 Florida used the Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test (FCAT) to test students in grades 3 through 10 in reading and math; in grades 4, 8 and 10 in writing; and in grades 5, 8 and 11 in science. The FCAT Writing results are displayed separately on GreatSchools profiles. The FCAT is a standards-based test, which means it measures how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of Florida. The FCAT has 5 achievement levels, with level 1 being the lowest and level 5 the highest. Florida considers scores of level 3 and higher to be on or above grade level. The goal is for all students to score at or above level 3.
