Read what parents are saying about Sidwell Friends SchoolAwesome, cool school. Great for learning and stuff.
Posted by a parent on 5/17/2023While I appreciate the quality of education I have received at Sidwell Friends School, I have noticed some areas of concern. There have been instances of bullying among students that I believe the school could have handled better. Additionally, there have been times when I feel that some teachers are not adequately prepared for their lessons, leading to confusion and frustration in the classroom. Also, I've noticed a Principals spend the budget for themself, not for the school. While I believe the school has many positive aspects, I hope these issues can be addressed to improve students' overall experience.
Posted by a student on 4/4/2023For 80% of the student body the school is adequate and they are guided toward expensive smaller colleges, often smaller and regional institutions. The top 20% typically are admitted to highly selective institutions. After sending three children to the school, we now find ourselves in a stressful position with little saved for retirement and children with student loans. For us in retrospect, it was not worth sending our children to Sidwell.
Posted by a parent on 5/27/2021$597,000 = the cost of sending a child to SF K-12, plus expected donations, plus technology fees, plus athletic fees, etc.

8/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageBased on our recent personal experience and conversations with some of the parents, Eaton Elementary is not best suited for children with special needs. Evaluations were taking a long time; there were examples of special needs children being bullied by their peers, and the LEA Representative was often inaccessible. I must say that we had a wonderful experience with other children and parents. The occupational therapist was great, very devoted, and S&L therapist and psychologist were fine too. On the opposite side of the spectrum, there was shockingly unethical behavior of the general education teacher and LEA Representative, which should have led to a disciplinary action. It is unfortunate that such unreliable persons found their place in Eaton.Parent Review1y ago - Janney Elementary School

10/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThe best school in DC BY FAR! Every single one of the staff members are very engaged with all of the students. They recognize and know each and every student by name. They foster and nurturing loving environment to make all new students and current students feel welcomed and heard /seen. They operate that if a private school so there are so many programs and courses before and after school for the children. They are learning at such and accelerated rate that my 5 year old who has never been to school has already learned how to read in a matter of months. They teach social studies, math, reading, writing anything you can imagine you name it to their kindergarteners. Imagine what is being taught to the upper level grades. They do not miss a beat on informing parents and keeping us up to date with what goes on at school. They are very transparent and interactive and available whenever you need them. There’s just so much good to say about this school I’m absolutely in love with the environment. I’ve seen nothing but kindness from all students. No bullying everyone is very supportive of one another which I love! Another great thing is that students who are struggling a little in a subject are taken out of class and into McAllen groups to help keep them ahead with their peers in whichever lesson they might be needing xtra work on instead of not caring and letting them fall behind.Parent Review1mo ago - Hearst Elementary School

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI agree with comments that the diversity at the school is geographic and not with regards to socioeconomic and racial backgrounds. The school's IB program is top-notch and unparalleled. The previous comment about students not being able to speak the language is more a reflection of that parent's own child than the quality of the education at WIS. Many of the students go on to great universities around the world, including in countries where students have learned their second language (i.e. in France, Spain, Holland, etc...). Decades after graduating from WIS, students still retain global friend and professional networks that cannot be found at any other school in the DC area- let alone in the United States. If you want your student to have an international education and culturally diverse upbringing, send them to WIS.Parent Review3y ago - Annunciation Catholic School
