This is our 6th year at Traut. Every year my kids have had excellent teachers. My kids have had experience with the higher gifted and talented math program and reading program which has improved this year due to the new RTI program. The science program at Traut is also strong. The science experiments

Parents help in every classroom, on every committee and even help make decisions with the staff members about how our school is run. We have a strong core value program as well that constantly teaches kindness, respect, perseverance, appreciation of differences in others and cultural backgrounds and more. There's always room for improvement but overall I feel like our family has had a great experience here. Read less

It's hard to rate a school, if you don't have any experience with others schools and can't compare. My main disappointment with Traut has been that an advanced kid is not challenged enough. I don't know how it is in other schools, but often the focus is on getting 'everyone' at the same level. Perhaps

Now with the G&T Program going away(funding), what little the advanced kids were getting is also going to be taken away. Most other schools have Math at the same time. So if a child is advanced they are moved up to the next grade level. Traut doesn't do that. Nor do they have Accelerated Reader program. Again it's hard to compare, because we don't have any experience with other schools. Read less

I have 4th grader at Traut. Great curriculum and fits his needs and keeps him challenged. The character value education which is part of the curriculum is a very important aspect of learning and growing up. We plan to enroll our second child as well when he is ready.

Unfortunately we subjected four of our children to the militaristic regime at Traut before we wised up and yanked them out. We had our oldest children at the school when it was still using cast-off desks and equipment at the old Fort Collins High School building and the focus was about the children.

Read more After the school moved into the new building it didn't take long to learn that the administration was all about the prestige, teachers were secondary, and students were somewhere well below that. It's a buck up or back out environment. The school doesn't know how to handle exceptionally gifted and talented kids. They mark them as trouble if they don't fit the expected norm. Read less

I have two kids at Traut, one in 6th and one in 3rd grade. Great curriculum, very rich with lots of hands on activities. The teachers are very invested in the school, as are parents. Traut is a school that demands that all students conform to an idealitic view of 'high character'. These standards are taught as part of the curriculum, but not modeled or practiced by the majority of teachers. Students who are not 'perfect' in behavior, learning styles, or academic achievement are

At this school, the administration will only 'work with you' if you agree with everything that happens when your child walks through the doors. I have two children at Traut. Grades k-3 were handled pretty well. However beyond that the homework and core sequence becomes much to involved. While I like the idea that a third grader can tell you when the Roman Empire fell (AD 476), I don't find spending 3 or more weeks on a subject that isn't

Over the years I've come to find that if you have an advanced student they fit in well at Traut and are viewed as average. On the other hand if you have an average student or one who struggles they are not a good fit with this school. The heavy homework load and advanced ciriculum can make it intolerable for both student and parent. My children will be going to a regular Poudre R-1 school next year. Read less

I have three children at Traut, and have been pleased with the education they receive. The 'Core Knowledge' curriculum is used, which is why we chose Traut in the first place. There is ample opportunity for parental involvement, extracurricular activities, and extra academic activities (i.e. foreign

The only qualms we have had with Traut have been what we feel is an excessive amount of homework, particularly from third grade on up. Kids should have time outside of school to relax, play, and just enjoy being children. The large amount of homework assigned can put a serious crimp in this, as there are only so many hours in a day.
