Horrible. I was asked to leave in my senior year, because of one particular student who created false rumors about me. No one explained to my mom or to me why I had to leave. I was also forced into advanced classes that I could not do, which caused me at the time to go into my old habits of ditching classes. I came to the school to learn how to read at 13 years old and with a lot of trauma. New Horizons successfully helped me achieve the hardship of learning to read that I had been covering up for years. But also created a lot more phycological problems, that at the time, they had no business or experience in understand or dealing with children who have been bullied by peers and by their peers' parents and other issues. Things that have caused me to have to go into therapy for. Issues I still struggle with today. I only hope that the teachers and the director of New Horizon now understand young adults who may have behavioral/personality/depression/anxiety and or/trauma issues and how to work with them and address them. Because many kids with learning disabilities have these problems. And the problem child and parent that caused me to be kicked out of the school, I later learned had a personality disorder that was untreated. I hope this did not happen to anyone else.

New Horizon school has been a savior for both of my sons. They each have learning difficulties, but their problems are completely different. The teachers and the Director of New Horizon have been able to devise plans to address their individual challenges and help them both to thrive and be successful. The first thing the school does, however, is to make each child feel safe and respected. The kids who end up here have endured years of being made to feel like failures because of their ADHD, Dyslexia, mild autism, or whatever their challenges are. That terrible cycle of bullying and being made to feel stupid needs to be stopped, and New Horizon does that quickly. Hence the kids are able to learn and get individual help. I don't know where our family would be without this wonderful little school! It's a shame that more people in our area don't know about this gem.

The director, Marianne Campbell and her amazing staff are gifted in recognizing and respecting the needs of kids and creating a safe, enriching environment for real learning to happen. I am a mom of a twelve year old boy who has aspergers and ADHD. My son was deeply depressed, bullied, often unable to attend school because of emotional upset, and misunderstood by teachers and other school professionals. Now he wakes up happy and feels safe within the small, family setting of New Horizons School and Learning Center. It is a huge relief to see him relaxed, laughing and learning. I rate this school five stars!!!!!

Imagine the frustration of a student sitting in a classroom with 30 other students, feeling like he (or she) is the only one that "doesn't get it". Unable to concentrate or process information quickly enough in this setting, he feels like he's falling further behind with each passing day, and his self-esteem falls accordingly. What if that student really isn't "lazy", but actually learns differently than the general student population? Now imagine coming to a school where teachers take the time to understand how each student learns, and tailors a teaching program that teaches to a child's strengths. Imagine a small classroom environment where a student can focus and thrive, and where they are given the tools, and the time, to succeed. New Horizon School & Learning Center is such a school. It is a "GreatSchool" for kids that learn differently. Our son struggled in public school where one teacher said that he "just needs to try harder". New Horizon School has provided a nurturing learning environment that has helped our son build his self-esteem and confidence - he's now in a place, mentally and physically, where he can learn again. It is truly a "GreatSchool"!

My 15 yr old son had a horrible time in public high school. We heard about this school through friends with children who had experienced same problems in public high schools. Ever since my son started this school, his grades, attitude and self-esteem improved dramatically. What more could we ask for??
