Read what parents are saying about Mission College Preparatory Catholic High SchoolMission was a great school, it provided superb academics with supportive teachers that wanted all students to learn and do well. Teachers made themselves available so that their students had all the support they required. I would say that Mission is actually tougher than a lot of universities. The writing and study skills I learned at Mission made my time during my Bachelors and Masters fairly easy. In addition to academics, the school also provided great resources for sports and clubs. I kept a busy schedule and was involved with a large amount of activities, which taught me time management skills. I would recommend this school to anyone thinking about attending.

Posted by a parent on 8/29/2017My husband and I have put three children through Mission Prep. If some of these reviews I've been reading were true, I think we wouldn't have let even one finish. The opposite is true, this school does not force anyone to pray, they respect all religions and the non religious. Education, family, character, discipline and respect is what they excel with. The tuition is just but for those who cannot afford it, they do have financial assistance. We gave our kids the choice to which school they would go to and if things got difficult and they complained, we would give them the option to leave. Every time my kids said "No! I love this school!" It also teaches them to be involved with the community around them and worldwide. It's the best choice we've ever made for our children and they have become amazing young adults! Proud parents!
Posted by a parent on 7/20/2017We are not Catholic. Yes, the students attend mass and also take a religious class. Hasn't hurt my son any (we are not believers, FYI). My son is in his 4th year at the school. I am confident he is fully ready to launch and be independent. The school has high expectations-a true education rather than the sad state of public school (my daughter went to public school locally...wouldn't make that choice again). This school is worth it.
Posted by a community member on 12/3/2015This is a college preparatory and yes the academics are demanding and discipline is enforced. The whole purpose of the exercise is to create young people ready for university who can think for themselves and run their own lives without mommy and daddy. The discipline and behavior code is intended to help you keep the job that your university education will help you secure. Maybe some of the slackers who have written demeaning reviews will "get it" when they have been dismissed from their third or fourth job for performance failures. The student body is small so that no student falls between the cracks, as can happen at SLO High with its 2000+ student body. I had two children who attended here and both are at universities on the east coast doing very well. They both go to school fulltime and work part time to pay their bills. Wow! A work ethic, I wonder where they got that from?

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThis is our 2nd year at SLOCA, and have only experienced the middle school. We wanted a different approach for middle school so my son started in 6th grade. Over all, we have found SLOCA to be an excellent choice for middle school. Kids are still kids and there is no perfect school, but we have found SLOCA to be a supportive environment with very rich learning and extra curricular opportunities. My son is a fairly good student, but much more attuned to sports than to academics. SLOCA has helped him stay engaged in his studies while allowing him the space to play sports and express his interests other than school. Middle school is a tough season of life, and the teachers have been excellent supporters of his growth and wellbeing. Their communication is top notch and they seem to truly “get” my son. They always have more positive things to say than negative, and that wasn’t always our experience in the public environment. I can only speak for the middle school, but I would choose it a hundred times over again, and plan to send my daughter for middle school as well.Parent Review3mo ago - Old Mission School
