Read what parents are saying about San Francisco University High SchoolShockingly poor teaching (in two specific cases, teachers literally did not teach. Rather, "instructed" students to go to Khan Academy and view YouTube videos). These are facts, not opinions. The "inconsistent" teaching quality and willful ignorance of the academic leadership is an abject failure of the school. Before sending your child here, please consider having a conversation with school leadership about this issue and also discuss with your family. Several parents with upper grade students chose not to send younger siblings to UHS. The school has been aware this problem (documented through surveys and in-person meetings with administration) for several years and clearly is not making teaching quality a priority. Poor teachers remain at the school. Clearly, the school's focus is not in "cultivating excellence" in teaching quality. Instead, the school is focused on fundraising $40 million for a new building. Teaching excellence should be UHS' core competency and priority. Unfortunately, and much to our dismay, it is not.
Posted by a community member on 7/6/2021Programs are outstanding. Culture is fantastic; never seen a school go to greater lengths to create a culture that inspires curiosity and builds strong community. Teaching quality is generally high, but somewhat variable. Like other independent schools I know, University does not yet earn 5 stars on "cultivating teaching excellence."
Posted by a parent on 5/21/2015Amazing school!! Kids are very very smart--future leaders of USA! Teachers are very supportive and the quality of instruction is the best I've ever seen in any school. Very sophisticated faculty--most of them with Phd degree. It is truly comparable to schools of America like Phillips Academy Exeter or Andover. My son is Junior and he is getting an amazing education (he is absolutely ready for college). We are inspired!!
Posted by a parent on 1/21/2013Easily comparable to the great private schools of America like Andover. There are other credible private high schools in San Francvisco, but no one with knowledge would bebate that UHS is at the top of the heap. A national innovator (created Summerbridge), an extraordinary curriculum and faculty, just a jewel which attracts the best ina supportive atmosphere.

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI am a parent of 2 current SVDP students. We are happy with the academics, extracurricular activities, parent community, value, teachers, and administration. The school both challenges and supports it’s students. The school did a fantastic job with in-person learning during COVID and has successfully navigated the 2021/2022 school year.Parent Review1y ago - San Francisco Waldorf School

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy two children attended SFWS Grade School K-8. They were well prepared for High School and beyond (now successful in college). I credit the school for a large part of my children's success. The key factors were the individual attention they received from every teacher, the experiential and practical curriculum they absorbed, and the social/emotional support they received from teachers, fellow students and other families in the community. I recommend this grade school to all my friends with children.Parent Review1y ago - Town School For Boys

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThere has been research that boys learn better in a co-ed environment. Town has its plusses, but many of them are social for the families and connections for the grads. If a boy is a different learner or doesn't conform, this school has the potential to be a nightmare.Other Review11mo ago - Hamlin, The
