At first, I will admit I was not fond of Taft at all. As I continued on in my high school years so did my liking for Taft. At first many do not like Taft. Once they realize that there is no where really better to go they will either come back to the school if they left or they will remain there and be

I've had two kids attend Taft. It's a mixed bag. My daughter got totally lost in the large classrooms, and she finished at another high school My son currently attends, and has had a few exceptional teachers (unfortunately, by the end of this semester, all will have left for other opportunities), many

We've ended up spending a few thousand dollars on private tutoring too keep our kids on-track with what's being taught. I must say that the administration at Taft is excellent. The counseling office staff is always very helpful, and Mrs. Thomas is a very effective principal. Read less

If your child does not excel in academics, they get overlooked easily at this school. There are some great teachers but most aren't so great. It takes quite some time for teachers/counselor's to respond and by the time they do it is too late to help your help. Telephone calls, e-mails and hand delivered

Taft is a wonderful school. There are a ton of clubs, sports teams, and extracurricular activities that one should have no problem finding something he/she enjoys doing. As far as Taft being an 'unsafe' school, this is not true. The staff is very good at keeping the students safe and looking out for

In fact, Taft is so motivated to making sure everyone 'belongs' somewhere, that it has recently created many small learning communities in which students can excell in the things that interest them, so that they are more motivated to succeed. Taft is located in a wonderful area, and the student body is diverse. Take it from me, I'm a Taft student. Read less

* In 2006-2007 California used the California Standards Tests (CSTs) to test students in English language arts and math in grades 2 through 11; science in grades 5, 8 and 10; and history-social science in grades 8, 10 and 11. Middle and high school students also took subject-specific CSTs in math and science, depending on the course in which they were enrolled. The CSTs are standards-based tests, which means they measure how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of California. The goal is for all students to score at or above proficient on the tests.

you compare similar schools in this district or area. For example, a rating of 8 indicates that, on average, students in
this school scored better than 70% of the students in the state on the same tests. We have indicated below which tests
were used in calculating these ratings. Other factors should be considered when comparing schools, including teacher
