My son transferred to this school from Bobier almost in the middle of his second grade year. Although I like that they integrate the arts in with educational learning, because of the recent budget cuts, there are more children in the classrooms now. They recently hired a wonderful security guard abd

OK. Here's the deal with VAPA. It's a pretty good school, not the best, but definitely above par. The arts are important. I think it's bull that so many school are eliminating them from the curriculum. Think about it, how many studies show that artistic involvement improves a child s academic work? When
... Read more I first got to high school, an English teacher asked the students if they knew the difference between fiction and non-fiction, only the VAPA students raised their hands. They didn't know even basic literary genres. And another thing, kids from VAPA are just all around nicer people. Why? Because it's K-8. I have heard horrible stories from some of my new friends about their time in middle school. Such problems were practically nonexistent at VAPA because middle schoolers have to watch themselves around the younger kids. It may not have been the best, but I'm glad I went there. Read less

This school is one which instills equality among the chidlren and give them a sense of importance and meaning which I feel is lost in many schools as they are very overcrowded. The staff is extremely caring and sensitive towards the childrens needs along with great communication with the parents.

Read more Under her leadership, the arts have become watered down, and there has been too much drama (I'm not referring to performing arts here) between her, the current superintendent and the teachers. For heaven's sake, she outlawed class parties. This is our child's last year at VAPA and while we adore her teachers, they are frustrated by the interference of the principal and the lack of leadership and vision that has pervaded our dear VAPA for the last 4 years. The school definitely took a turn for the worse when Rodney G. left. Teachers, we love and support you. Read less

My daughter is in her second year at this school. She has had wonderful teachers thus far. I am happy that they offer extended activities after school. I would like to see more opportunities for the young ones as far as performances, etc. I would also like to see more diversity in the students rather

Safety awareness is lacking. Staff *must* remain vigilant at all times, from traffic concerns to campus security. Staff should wear photo ID badges. Parents and visitors should be given a temporary, visible pass while on campus. The current principal seems very unhappy, and this has been allowed

Parents, we do need more support. It's easy to turn our backs and say 'many more students are Spanish-speakers'. Well, it is what it is. All students deserve the best we as parents can give. Our teachers need all the support in the world. After all, they are taking care of our most precious commodity. Let's offer to help in any way possible.
