We moved into the Royal Oaks district after hearing from other parents that it was a GATE school. Unfortunately, we were grossly misled. The school API is relative to several other schools within this district. There is not a structured GATE program led by any CAG leaders or teachers. There is not a
... Read more GATE calendar of annual activities for the high achieving students, and there is a serious lack of grouping for the GATE students. The school focus is entirely on test scores, yet the students who deliver the scores do so without any school help or assistance whatsoever. Roayl Oaks is a wonderful school and Liz Parker is an excellent pricincipal. It is obvious that she as well as her staff care about the children and love to be creative in finding ways to help children learn.

I love Royal Oaks. We have had children at this school for the last four years, and have been very pleased overall with the opportunities given them to grow academically and socially. The principal and the teachers are passionate about education, and there are many opportunities for parental involvement.

Read more While I am not thrilled with the nationwide emphasis on test scores at this time, I am happy that at Royal Oaks, the students are prepared for testing without having it drive the curriculum per se. Funds raised by parents provide materials that give the students the best possible chance to succeed during standardized testing. There is also an emphasis on compassion and social consciousness that I think is as important an aspect of education as 'book-learning.' Royal Oaks' creative and dedicated teachers do a fabulous job with an increasingly diverse student population. Read less

My son has gone from K-6 at Royal Oaks. Generally the teachers have been outstanding. Considering Visalia Unified's lack of interest in the GATE program, Royal Oaks offers the best program they can. However, there is no real GATE program at the school - class and home work is the same for all students in the class. GATE identified students are not kept in a cluster. Sports is non-existent

Advanced Placement
AP classes are college-level classes offered at the high school level. Programs offering GED or equivalent courses for adults within regular schools, whether classes are held during evening or daytime schedules.
English as Second Language
English language classes for students whose first language is not English.
