... Read more atmosphere is tought for shy kids, but that is to be expected anywhere. Some of the teachers also have favorites and ignore some of the kids, which makes it difficult for the shy ones. Read less

I feel that AHS is generally a good school. I also feel that the teachers don't pay enough attention to grades, which especially affects the kids that want to go to a 4 year college. My child has had a couple teachers make mistakes on their grades and they didn't seem to care....

I have a student at AHS. I think that the counselors need to be more positive. I feel that the school in general is very good, however, many of the teachers are indifferent about the grades. They don't give the students enough warning about their grades and the kids that want to go to college, sometimes

It would be nice if school counselors or someone would contact parents once their child is a Junior. Just a touch basis to see if your child is on tract and answer questions parents may have. Amador is a great school, but more positive parent input would be nice.

Amador High School is a good school... for a public one. I would suggest a private High School personally though. Positives: Wonderful Fine Arts classes -A good amount of AP and ROP classes -The good teachers are GOOD teachers Negatives: -Horrible English department -Indifferent attitudes

I am a senior currently enrolled at Amador Highschool. The conditions at Amador Highschool are currently poor. The brakes between classes are so short. I know much of the teaching staff, and they are more than compitent, but the principal micromanages the school, and as made it a clear point that he believes that teaching his values and what he believes is proper manners is more important than a formal education.

I have two children who are enrolled at AHS. I feel the computer's are not being utilized correctly. They are used mostly for students to waste time on during study hall so teachers don't have to deal with the students. Some of the textbooks being used at AHS have great links to web sites that will help
... Read more students to apply what they are learning, but unfortunately students are not informed about this. Study hall tends to be a waste of time for most students. Enrollment is down at AHS, I wonder why? Some of the students who have recently left to do independent study have shared that they feel they can accomplish more on their own. Read less

Advanced Placement
AP classes are college-level classes offered at the high school level. Once a student completes an AP class and passes a final comprehensive examination conducted by the College Board, the student earns college credit for the course. AP classes are specific and not to be confused with other higher-level classes such as honors classes.
Before/After School
"Extended day" programs where the school day is extended before and after school to accommodate working parents. These programs should not be confused with common after school clubs or athletic activities.
Gifted and Talented
A school system may identify 10% to 15% or more of its student population as gifted and talented. A brief description of each area of giftedness or talent as defined by the Office of Gifted and Talented:
general intellectual ability or talent - high intelligence test score (usually two standard deviations above the mean), and high levels of vocabulary, memory, abstract work knowledge and abstract reasoning;
specific academic aptitude or talent in one area such as mathematics or language arts;
creative and productive thinking, the ability to produce new ideas;
leadership ability, the ability to direct individuals or groups to a common decision or action;
visual and performing arts, special talents in visual art, music, dance, drama, or other related studies;
psychomotor ability, such as practical, spatial, mechanical, and physical skills.
Vocation/Technical Curriculum
Vocational and/or technical courses offered within a comprehensive school, usually a senior high school.
Special Education Classes
A school or program within a school that provides services and training to students with moderate to severe mental and/or physical disabilities.
Adult Education Classes
Programs offering GED or equivalent courses for adults within regular schools, whether classes are held during evening or daytime schedules.
English as Second Language
English language classes for students whose first language is not English.
