All three of my children graduated from this high school and all participated in various extra-curicular activities. Chorus, swimming, water polo, basketball and vollyball, among others, were all learning experiences. The challanges are revolve around a large percentage of low income and non-English
... Read more speaking students with a constant infux of new non-English speakers. However, the upside of this is the inclusiveness and diversity of the student body. My oldest daughter was one of only 400 students admitted to Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo in her major (average GPA of entering freshmen is 3.8+) but attended a more diverse college in the Southland to feel more comfortable. I graduated from Cal Poly, SLO and it is heavily Caucasian (as are we). I respected her quest for more diversity although I was disappointed she didn't go to my school. All three of my children are currently attending different colleges. Read less

I went to this school and graduated in 2001 and I firmly believe that you get out what you put in. This school has some awesome teachers. Mr. Johnson and Mr. Kohler are two men I will Never forget. Also, they had a great basketball team, with good coaches (Ms. Simard). I learned a lot from this school.

Our child is new at Santa Maria, she is enjoying her new school, being challenged by her teachers, Zero tolerance to violence is truly effective. I believe this school will eventually go a long way. Truly excellent staff of teachers, great students and parents.

Advanced Placement
AP classes are college-level classes offered at the high school level. Once a student completes an AP class and passes a final comprehensive examination conducted by the College Board, the student earns college credit for the course. Before/After School
