Pine Hill School has The Newton Program, which is an amazing program for high functioning autistic children. They really care about the kids, and do everything they can to help these kids with special needs succeed. The Newton Program has won state and international recognition for their program.

They do not call you to come pick up your child, they understand your child, they teach them academics not just manage their behavior, they do not abuse your child, they do not lock them up. I can't say enough about the warm welcome we recieved from Pine Hill's staff and students. It feels like coming home. A beacon of light at the end of dark tunnel, SJUSD couldn't figure it out nor did they want to try to since our son was an A student within the district, they caused a trip of absolute hell for my family. Pine Hill saved my son and family.

My son went through 5 other schools in SJUSD before we found Pine Hill. Misplaced in ED and SDC programs since 3d grade, he had suffered and not until placed at Pine Hill did one of the SDC teachers recognize him as high function asbergers- and we moved him to that program. My son also did well in the Newton Program, but the regular ED classes at the school were frightening and frustrating for him. Advanced Placement

AP classes are college-level classes offered at the high school level. Once a student completes an AP class and passes a final comprehensive examination conducted by the College Board, the student earns college credit for the course. AP classes are specific and not to be confused with other higher-level classes such as honors classes.

Before/After School

"Extended day" programs where the school day is extended before and after school to accommodate working parents. These programs should not be confused with common after school clubs or athletic activities.

Gifted and Talented

Vocation/Technical Curriculum

Vocational and/or technical courses offered within a comprehensive school, usually a senior high school.

Special Education Classes

A school or program within a school that provides services and training to students with moderate to severe mental and/or physical disabilities.

Adult Education Classes

Programs offering GED or equivalent courses for adults within regular schools, whether classes are held during evening or daytime schedules.

English as Second Language

English language classes for students whose first language is not English.
