As of the start of this school year on August 17, 2009, I now doubt the viability of Hacienda as a school of choice for many college-educated parents. Class size increased due to budget cuts and the student body now appears to be bused in from low income neighborhoods. While the parents' group, HIPS,

With this influx of English as a second language students, I foresee a flight to private or charter schools. Another disappointment is that the boys don't see themselves reflected in the teaching staff in so much as the ratio of female teachers to males is about 9 to 1 an egregious disparity. Read less

My daughter is a third grader here and has gone to Hacienda since first grade. I have to say that I have never seen a public school with so many enrichment programs for its students. Having a full time music teacher well introducing the kids to everything from classical to contemporary music, A stellar

Read more robotics program, and unheard of in public school, an actual 1 acre outdoor classroom with two ponds where on special days the children are allowed to crayfish, gardens for each and every class to tend, and an indoor science classroom with a wide variety of species so the kids get a hands on experience with nature and caring for it. Of course none of this could be done without HIPS (Hacienda Involved Parents) and the dedicated staff obviously love their school. My child and I really feel like she's getting a well rounded education along life skills. Read less

I had to add my review of Hacienda after receiving and viewing the latest reviews. My child attended Hacienda for almost 1/2 a year, split up by the summer months. In late fall I removed my child and got into our home school. I was very disgusted with the school children who attended the mid-elementary
... Read more grade level. A large portion of students were from families that I must say were not the best at teaching their children how to behave nicely and act properly. There was alot of swearing and badmouthing on the playground. And bullying was definitely an issue here, which is why we finally got out. It was a shame because I do agree that the school has much to offer by way of a large and generous parent community that works to bring in great programming. If only it could become a private enterprise to segregate students. Read less

My son has been going to Hacienda since Kindergarten and my daughter transferred over in third grade. Both have been doing excellent in school. School relies heavily on parent volunteers and their environment (science, music, etc) is very good. Hacienda's API scores are good, over 850 and with new leadership

Mrs Mohammed is responsive to parent concerns, I had raised a concern about them locking the rear entrance that was used frequently by parents and children and they quickly resolved that. Hacienda's environment is safe and bully free. The teachers are focussed on teaching and have accelerated reading/ math programs if your children are excelling. I just wish the class sizes were smaller, they are busting at 25-30 but that is more of a state issue than a school issue I assume. Read less
