Star has been an incredibly great match for our family. After trying public school, we switched to Star because we needed a safer environment for our children. It has been wonderful to witness our children thrive and love academics at this school. The staff our accessible, nurturing, and open minded.

I really love this school. In such a big city, it's nice to have a neighborhood Catholic school that embraces a small school culture, and provides a nurturing environment where my child is thriving. The parent community is really great, and parent participation and new ideas are welcomed and encouraged.
... Read more The K teacher is outstanding, and I am so pleased with the stories and learning that my child shares with me from class. The principal is a caring and supportive leader of this school, and makes a point to be personable with the kids, even giving the little Kindergarteners High 5's every morning before they head to class. The Iowa Test Scores are some of the highest in the archdiocese, which goes to show what a supportive environment and high quality teachers can do. Read less

Our children transferred into Star of the Sea and both they and we could not be more pleased. The teachers are dedicated, caring and committed to academic excellence. ... Read more on developing well-rounded students. We really like the ethnic and religious diversity in the school, and the fact that it fosters good values and citizenship. Our children love the team sports (starting in grade 3) and the fact that the majority of the games are held at the gym contributes to the sense of community. This school needs to continue cleaning house. My daughter graduated, and was very ill-prepared for Catholic high school. This was a shock to us. The principal is trying, but too many bad teachers get retained and continue to chip away at what used to be fairly good academics. Parent involvement is

I am so sad to see Star of the Sea going the way is seems to be going. One of the things we love about the school is learning environment. It is nurturing and challenging without being overly stressful for the students. We also love that there is a community of parents who are so passionate about the school.

I love this school In addition to all the great things the other posters have mentioned, Star now has a well-rounded group of afterschool activities - drama, yoga, chinese, spanish, guitar, garden club and more. Oh - and a Preschool! Star is growing in a rapid fashion but not in a way that is painful.

I've been happy w/Star. I have two children there grades K and 2. The teachers are fantastic and they really try hard to help children w/problem academics. The school has a great sport program and excellent language arts. The parents who choose to be involved are proactive, I would like to see more parents
... Read more from the upper classes involved. We now have a preschool which is very exciting! My daughters are above average in the academic field due to the teachers. I highly recommend Star. This is our first year at this school and we couldn't be happier! The kindergarten teacher is nurturing and encouraging, helping each child be their best without undue stress. The diversity of the student body is also very representative of San Francisco which is another reason why we chose this school. Parental involvement is always welcome as well! Advanced Placement
AP classes are college-level classes offered at the high school level.
