So, now she's a Junior and is so happy that she 1) was accepted out of over 700 kids, 2) is glad that her school is so diverse and 3) is surrounded by grounded, focused kids who represent the diversity of San Francisco. We moved to San Francisco because of SoTA - My daughter was attending a high scoring public school tbhat was great on academics but the music program was hopeless. SoTA has been wonderful for her - not just musically, but the atmosphere is so vibrant and encourages students to take responsibility for

Every concert or performance I've attended at SoTA has been so far above the standard of most schools, the students are passionately engaged and focused and although it has taken some getting used to, the free flowing atmosphere actually produces real talent and co-ordination. I recommend this school for any student who has real talent and commitment and wants to pursue the fine arts. Read less

Great arts but so so academics poor math and science programs- great history and english-You only go here if you really are a musician or actor or writer and thats what you want to pursue. I would not send my child here again, I would have supplemented the arts education even though he plans to pursue

At SOTA, everything depends on the discipline the student is studying. Our student was theatre tech, and while the level of skill demonstrated was of a high quality, our student didn't learn anything new after 10th grade, so we moved on. The level of the academics range from average to very good,

Read more however, if your child has an IEP (learning disability) you will definitely need to be hands-on in following up - though the staff and principal were very accommodating, it not an ideal environment for anyone who needs extra support. Read more education (something unique to all sota students), and the academic rigor, and access to all kinds of bay area arts, academic, and extracurricular activities, means that sota students have a well established foundation to pursue anything they want, from arts to academics, to even science and math, and student leadership, you see it all. Many other schools of this caliber are highly pressurized environments, but not sota. Advanced Placement
AP classes are college-level classes offered at the high school level. Once a student completes an AP class and passes a final comprehensive examination conducted by the College Board, the student earns college credit for the course. AP classes are specific and not to be confused with other higher-level classes such as honors classes.
Before/After School

Adult Education Classes
Programs offering GED or equivalent courses for adults within regular schools, whether classes are held during evening or daytime schedules.
English as Second Language
English language classes for students whose first language is not English.
