Our daughter is going into 4th grade. McKinley has been an excellent school for her and for our family. Our new principal, Rosa Fong, has moved into the role so well, the staff, kids and parents have continued to thrive through the transition. The after-school program has improved steadily over the

Read more years, it has high-quality enrichment activities that my daughter loves: dancing, song-writing, etc. We have an excellent, really stable group of teachers, and the newer teachers have been a welcome addition. The teachers use technology well and appropriately to enhance learning, kids of all levels of skill and aptitude are engaged and excited about learning. It is a diverse, active, happy school. We absolutely love this school. My son in K is thriving and learning and really happy. I'm very impressed with the personal attention and teaching that give him what he needs at this age. ... Read more thirteen SFUSD schools I toured. The architecture of the school revolves around a great room library with classrooms and hallways opening into it. This small active community of parents and volunteers built a new playground and planted herbs gardens in planter boxes outside all the classroom doors opver the summer. The academics are rigourous, but also adjusted to meet the needs of each child, with lots of differential learning going on. My daughter is learning to read as our her classmates, it is truly inspiring to watch them all grow. Read less

We are entering our fourth year at McKinley. It is a small school with a very big heart -- The staff and teachers are very accessible, really care about the children and are very willing to work with families to help your child succeed. We love the diversity of the school (it is a microcosm of SF)

Read more and think the 'extras' - Spanish, music, and dance along with the McKinley traditions (sandcastle contest, UN DAY, Jr. Olympics, performances, etc.) add to the richness of the McKinley experience. Like all public schools it has challenges and constraints, but it is a school which deserves your attention. Advanced Placement
AP classes are college-level classes offered at the high school level. Once a student completes an AP class and passes a final comprehensive examination conducted by the College Board, the student earns college credit for the course.
