Marshall is a great, little school in the Mission with Spanish immersion and a science focus. I have two kids there and we are very pleased with the school, from the very receptive principal, to the supporting teachers to the parents and volunteers. Like many other schools, Marshall suffers from underfunding

However, the parents and staff are finding creative ways for enrichment programs, such as chess club, capoeira, dancing (the school is in SF's Carnaval Parade for the first time in 2007!), and lots of science related field trips. Marshall School is a hidden gem in the Mission. Its small size -- 250 or so -- means most of the teachers know most of the students. This means a lot more than test scores in terms of real education. ... Read more my English-speaking 8-year-old fluent Spanish. Afterschool activities are available for all children through two channels. The first is St. John's incredible, free program of extracurricular academic help, athletic activities, and even capoeira. The other are parent-teacher-run activities such as chess club and Odyssey of the Mind. The school's also been featuring an extremely popular wood shop class for kids, as well as dance instruction. But I think my favorite part of the school is really the warmth and friendliness of the teachers. We actually arrived at this school by chance and really love [it]. Read less

Thanks to parent involvement this is a good school. The teachers are wonderful and committed but the principal is new to her job and seems overwhelmed. Test scores have declined since she took the helm two years ago.

Advanced Placement
AP classes are college-level classes offered at the high school level.
