... Read more orientation sessions are fabulous and we would have been thrilled with any of the teachers. The principal is very focused on the needs of her students and can detail what is taking place throughout the school at any given moment. Very innovative curriculum and enrichment opportunities, especially arts and science. We ve had great communication with our teacher. Our child started reading within the first three weeks of class and is very engaged. My only concern is the PTO, which is a tight group of parents and not nearly as warm and accessible as the teachers and principal. Read less

My child just started kindergarten at Argonne and I am so impressed! We met all the K teachers - they are very experienced, committed and caring. During the first two weeks of school, the students rotate between the teachers and have a chance to get to know everyone while the staff is able to assess

Next point: It seems I was supposed to have received a white envelope with my son's report card and 1st grade assignment. Never received it. Every time I ask the principal a question, her response is 'I don't know.' Guess Argonne's principal is merely a figurehead collecting a wage she certainly does not deserve! Argonne is a great school and it is only getting better...it is being led by a great group of parent volunteers who have thier hearts in the right place. The school community seems to be developing a strong sense of identity and pride -- with almost everyone sporting an Argonne Wolfpack sweatshirt, T-shirt or cap these days. We are concluding our first year at Argonne and have been extremely disheartened by the entire experience. Frankly, when someone now, especially someone in Parents for Public Schools, tries to tell me all the 'positives' about our schools I think of the people who told their friends to invest in Madoff.
... Read more Just saying the school is good or has good scores does not mean the school is providing a good education or educational experience. From lack of adult supervision in the classroom and on the playground, to poor communication between the principal and parents and the principal and teachers and teachers and parents, we feel we plunged from a nurturing & caring preschool straight to a large, uncaring urban middle school. It has been a scary and daunting experience -- some parents here defend this as 'just life' -- I believe the school can more to nurture a true caring community. Read less

... Read more russian language program. In addition, The YMCA after school program that is offered on-campus is very well run and a great complement to the school. All this would have added up to a 4.5 star school if it wasn't for the principal who doesn't have good rapport with the parents nor show adequate leadership. I am a parent of a Kindergartner who has a had a great experiencethis year at Argonne. I am especialy impressed with all of the extras that the Parent Organization is able to add to the curriculum, like 'Art in Action'. These programs really benefit the kids and give them a well rounded education.

Argonne was my first choice for my child, and that choice has not disappointed! The library is bright, spacious, and staffed. There's a new, state of the art computer lab. The teachers, fellow parents, YMCA-staffed after-school program and community in general are open and friendly. The school, classrooms

I am also a parent at Argonne and have recommended this school to many families searching for a quality school in this neighborhood. I have only had positive interactions with the teachers. Argonne has a number of programs promoting a caring community environment. Parents volunteer to lead Art lessons

According to my daughter, they have play-yard conflict resolution plans which involve student moderators. She has friends throughout the school, not exclusively in her class and looks forward to going to school each day. That is a mark of a good school. Read less

Advanced Placement
AP classes are college-level classes offered at the high school level.
