My son started in Parkside about a month ago and I'm very impressed and happy to know that it is a safe, friendly, and academically stimulating place to be. The principal and vice principal are there in the front gate morning and afternoon to make sure that our kids are safe. The teachers are nice, and

I attended the 1st PTO meeting and I can tell that the parents are involved with school activities and fund raising. I'm so glad we made the right decision to send my son in Parkside. He enjoys going to school and so far doing excellent in all his classes. The advance classes are great. Don't be disappointed looking at the school's current score, what matters is what your child's score is. Read less

This is in response to the Feb1508 response and to anyone who thinks negatively about Parkside. I have a daughter who is a gate student and now a 9th grader at Cap and while attending Parkside she took AP classes. She was placed in these classes by her teacher possibly they didn't place this former student

There are not 2 math classes unless you have math tech as an elective. I have had no problems with Parkside this is our 3rd year there, my son is in 8th gr. Every school has problems, fights etc. But I think it is up to the parents to lead their child in the right direction, know who their friends are. Don't depend on the school to do this for you. I went to parkside for two years and in all honesty, it was a terrible school. They had absolutely nothing there, and nothing was taken seriously there. After parkside, i came to capuchino high school, which if you don't already know has the international baccelaureate program which serves college

Both my children attended Parkside, and it was a mixed experience. Socially, it was great -- very diverse, and my kids made some wonderful friends. The safety issue is much exaggerated. The kids may dress like gangstas (even with the dress code!), but if you spend time volunteering at school, you'll

Academically, it's a mixed bag. Algebra instruction is excellent (high test scores back this up), and some of the language arts teachers are very good. Music program is good -- teacher has high standards, which a lot of kids aren't used to! My kids weren't academically challenged by Parkside's program, though, and that is my biggest complaint. My kids didn't do sports, but lots of their friends enjoyed it. Read less
