I agree that there are the same parents that seem to be the core group for planning and executing events - as a working parent, I'm glad they're there to provide students with different programs and events. It seems to me that with the earlier comment posted about needing new fundraising ideas and programs w/in the PTA could best be addressed by saying: then get involved with the PTA - actions speak louder than words! Over the years I've seen them provide all playground equipment in the 'big' yard, curtains for the stage, the signboard, audio and visual equipment, a contribution every year towards field trips, P.E. equipment, and digital cameras for each grade. Monte Verde is one of the best schools in the SSFUSD. I believe they have great teachers and a good principal. The only area that needs improvement is the PTA which lacks organization and direction. Well, my rate is based on my experienced as a parent with two children currently attending in this school. My two childrens are new in school but they very much like it. ... Read more school. The difference is, that I don't have to pay tuition fees for my childrens. My childrens academic, so far, is excellent. Parents, Teachers and Principal involvement are very professional and much better than other school that my childrens attended both private and public school. The school environment is excellent. Safety, is very important for everybody especially for students, staffs and parents. In Monte Verde, safety is not perfect and there is room for improvement but the way the current budget and economics goes, Monte Verde is about 8 on safety compare to others. Read less

Monte Verde is a great school, because we have parents, teachers, administrators and staff working together to make it that way. We have a high level of parent involvement. The PTA generates a yearly school calendar, a monthly newsletter, a yearbook and maintains several web pages to keep parents

Additionally, they work with the MV staff to provide many activities, including assemblies, field trips, a pumpkin contest, an Author's Faire, a Birthday Book Club and many community events. Some of the wonderful community events include: the Feast of Nations dinner, the Family BINGO night and restaurant nights. The Site Council, made up of parents, staff and community members has created several committees to help better the school. Among them, the Vision Statement Committee, the Parent Handbook Committee, the Tom Sawyer Committee and the Safety Committee. Both PTA and Site Council consistently encourage parent involvement! In this school district Monte Verde is heads above the rest, and is comparable to quality San Fran schools like Rooftop. ... Read more top-ranked CA public schools, could be substantially better. MV as become the catch-all elementary school now that Hillside has been closed. Whether this affects its scores remains to be seen, but even the 2005 scores show some possible slippage that is worrysome. Mr. Witter in 3rd grade is an excellent instructor, and Principal T is approachable in my experience. MV needs greater parent involvement to match the Woodsides and Pleasantons. Read less

Advanced Placement
AP classes are college-level classes offered at the high school level.
