I'm the parent of a 7th grader, and I really appreciate all the curriculum intervention opportunities that are made available to students to help them improve their academic performance. The principal and vice principal do a 2-day/week intervention advisory class to give those students with D's & F's

Plus, numerous teachers in each curriculum area are more than willing to work with students before school, after school and during lunch. I attended the end of 2nd trimester assembly and was impressed by the number of students that raised their overall GPA by a full point or better! Obviously these interventions are working! Over the past year I have seen a big change at Mitchell. I have found the teachers are spending more time on interventions and allowing opportunities for students to improve their grades. Mitchell has a dedicated staff and they definitely care about the kids. There are many opportunities for the students to get help and there is an awesome after school program that also helps the students do well and improve. Everyone at Mitchell takes pride in the school.

I have a daughter who completed middle school at Mitchell and a 7th grade son currently enrolled at the school. When we enrolled our daughter she had a learning disability and came from a private school. Mitchell Admin and staff were very supportive of her and her needs. Many of the teachers went the
... Read more extra mile with her to help her succeed and learn. My son had excellent teachers in 6th grade and now he is have excellent teachers in 7th grade. The change in Administation just a litle over a year has been wonderful. The level of disrespect and difiance displayed by students has dropped dramatically. The school went through an extensitive 2 year remodel. Each classroom has state of the art SMARTBoards, surround sound and the teachers have microphones ensuring all students are able to hear the presentations. The teachers respond to emails promptly. I am really torn on this school. I have had the pleasure of meeting a couple of Fantastic teachers who have strived to help my son stay on track. Yet the majority have made no attempts to contact me or return my emails when I ask questions regarding his grades. He likes his school but is very disappointed
... Read more that Art has been cut as an elective and has a hard time communicating with some of his teachers. I am very disappointed to see the test scores especially in math. If you have fewer than 20% of your students proficient in Algebra perhaps you have a problem in your math department. Students no more than a mile away at MIlls are doing better than that and I thought Mitchell was supposed to be a better school than Mills. Read less

Advanced Placement
