Academically the school is great. My kids are excited to learn more everyday. The staff is great with the kids. The availability of music is good, Art, I think there is not enough. The principle wants more structural time for the kids. Learning is more important she says. As for sports and extracurricular
... Read more activities, not enough. We only have our physical education time, no teams for the kids, parents need to get more involved to help these kids to be interested in sports. The teachers are the begining of their students futures. The parents are with them for the rest of their lives and having my children going there for so long I have volunteered numerous times in and out of the classrooms, there is not enough parent involvment. Parents need to stop complaining about staff and stuff and volunteer more often to see what is going on. Read less

I have been very impressed by the quality of ALL of the teachers at Alcott. My son has had wonderful teachers who remember that he is an individual and a child, and have been willing to take time out of their schedule to meet with me or talk on the phone. I have always felt welcome in the classroom,
... Read more and enjoy the opportunity to help out. I don't know the principal well, but she seems very motivated to make Alcott a great school. Parents are very active in the school, and the foundation makes it possible for students to go on field trips and have enrichment materials. I just wish the music program was available for the younger kids. Read less

Alcott has a very active PTA which provides alot of programs for the students. There is no art. Music is only offered starting in 4th grade with the violin, other instruments are offered beginning in 5th. There are no sports programs.

Both of my children attended Alcott. The education they are and have gotten is excellent. There are many caring, talented teachers working at this location. I have not had the same positive experience with the principal. She is difficult to talk to and has not ever responded to my concerns. Additionally,

While I was reviewing this information the 'Average Class Size' seemed to have had the numbers tweaked in the K-3 category. Now I am aware of how an average statistical score is generated. But as a parent of a 3rd grader from that school and year of 2002-2003. Her third grade class size was 30 - 32

But if an average person researching the school for their children would not have the accurate picture regarding this issue. My daughter has attended Alcott since kindergarten & now is in 5th grade. The only year she enjoyed & excelled in school was 2nd grade. Her 2nd grade teacher was her favorite & he seemed to know how to give the children a desire to learn. The following years have not been as beneficial to my daughter
... Read more & her self esteem has been squelched by each teacher. My daughter tests well, but complaints by the teachers each year of my daughter failing in class has caused me alarm. The principal is not helpful; in fact, she usually isn t available to meet with me. Read less

Advanced Placement
AP classes are college-level classes offered at the high school level.
