This school has one critical flaw, which is advertised as a strength: the block schedule. The block schedule does not improve the in-class experience by extending time available, rather, it worsens it by diminishing the value of time. Kids often wander out of class for 15 minutes or more without a teacher
... Read more even noticing, and teachers often put on movies or allow the kids to socialize, instead of teaching, to pass the time. Also, since the school was recently reopened many of the teachers are inexperienced, and a few of them got their jobs for being in-laws or friends-of-a-friend of the principal. However, the school does have some experienced teachers, but the 'laid back' atmosphere is detrimental to academics. PVHS also hasa lot of extracurricular activities available, and excellent sports teams. All around, not a bad high school, but not all it is cracked up to be. Read less

Make sure your teen knows what kind of crowd they want to be in, or that they have a niche where they can belong...join clubs! I didn't and I strongly regret that...MUN and Mock Trial are also great! Great block schedule and emphasis of in class participation lessens homework grind and leads to better learning environment. They also have the 2-time SoCal champion Equestrian team.

Palos Verdes High School offers unique opportunities that no other public school can offer. There is a strong push for high education and creative use of hands on learning. The beautiful campus alone gives a positive environment for students to excel academically and socially.

Equestrian, marching band (which is going to the beijing olympics), cross country, basketball, football, lacrosse and more are what a student can choose from. We posess many excellent classes as well. Our math, science, english, art, language, and sports departments are strong and they thrive. Our school also has its own student broadcasting channel, live from 205, and and a nationally recognized drama department. Advanced Placement
AP classes are college-level classes offered at the high school level. Once a student completes an AP class and passes a final comprehensive examination conducted by the College Board, the student earns college credit for the course. AP classes are specific and not to be confused with other higher-level classes such as honors classes.
Before/After School
