The academic programs at Pacific Grove High are one of the top programs in the area, but they still could be better. There are a good amount of competitent teachers, but some essential programs are greatly lacking in Teacher quality, but they are sufficient. Sports are excellent in the school,

Academic program is good, but could be stronger. School needs greater focus on college prep. More AP courses are desirable. Higher academic expectations should be set for students. Music and sports programs are excellent, and parents seem involved.

... Read more break into the social realm. The school has an excellent beginning Spanish teacher and the opportunity to go to Spain is offered every other year. Their drama department is improving, expecially with the ability to use the PGMS theater now. Photography is a great class and there are a few teachers who use innovation in their teaching. There is no chorus or choir class available - even after school. I appreciate that the school insists on seniors completing a special project in order to graduate. Read less

Top academic programs are good to excellent. Programs for learning challenged students are outstanding. Programs for mid-range skilled learners is average to good. Music, art and technology is superior but limited. Sports and campus environment and discipline are welcoming to students and superior.

Most top academic performers and top potential creative performer students then attend private secondary schools. That leaves the less exciting and the atheletes for this school. The principal is also a wizard at acquiring outside funding for her faculty and physical plant. While a few of the language arts faculty have an unfortunately strong committment to 'politically correct' themes in their syllabus selection more than a few faculty also pursue a remarkably traditional canon in language arts. While mathematics is rapidly modernizing its methods, the science stream still needs serious work and guidance is positively hidebound. Overall, there is an overemphasis on 'History Day' in the curriculum that needs a serious rethink. Read less

My daughter goes to this high school. They have a very good english program. Some teachers applies their own personal opinion when grading. The sports program is a joke. Advanced Placement
AP classes are college-level classes offered at the high school level. Programs offering GED or equivalent courses for adults within regular schools, whether classes are held during evening or daytime schedules.
