My children attended this school for two years and the extracurricular activities where wonderful. Our family very much enjoyed the family atmosphere as well. This schools major weakness is academics. This school has a tough time retaining good teachers. The turnover is high and the kids are not
... Read more really learning much in the way of academics, but they are learning what it means to be good citizens. There is a lack of supervision and accountability from the school as well. We took our children out of the school because of the concern that they were not learning (academically) what they needed to know. We took our children to be tested we found out that they were grossly behind in their academic learning for their grades. We would never refer any of our friends or family to attend this school, and we will probably never consider another charter school again. Read less

... Read more all academic and emotional levels. the afterschool program has also been an enriching experience. She does art, martial arts, dance and has developed quite a bond with the staff. I feel the school is a safe environment, it is diverse and the community has been open to suggestions to add to their program. From day one the school staff new who I was and what child I belonged to and they have always made me feel welcome. Also an added plus is that they are in the process of establishing a middle school. ... Read more school has incorporated a Performing Arts program for all students. The entire staff is dedicated to the mission of the school. There is a strong sense of family among the students, staff and families. Parent involvement is great, yet can always be improved. Children are learning to respect themselves, their peers, their elders, their ancestors and their planet. We live in Oakland and wanted our children to go to school in our community. We did look at several private schools. EBCC is exactly what we wanted and more. Read less

... Read more help. There is a wonderful music and visual arts program that the children just love. P.E.is a part of the school as well. There are lots of fun field trips that the children, teachers, and parents participate in. There is also an aftercare program that offers alot of different fun things to do for the children. I am the Parent Association President. I am pleased with the parent participation, but the more that would like to participate would make it even better. We moved from our public school because they had no conflict resolution curriculum, and we have found EBCC to be much more helpful in giving the children tools for resolving their conflicts. EBCC is a teachers' training school, with a great student to teacher ratio. There is a great emphasis on the environment

Advanced Placement
AP classes are college-level classes offered at the high school level.
