With the change in the administration, this school has begun to florish. The new Principal and Asst. Principal are absolutely wonderful. The atmosphere of the school has completely changed. ... Read more The after school programs are are great and offer a wide variety of classes and the new 'house structure' implemented by the Principal and District is wonderful. What happened in the past is past. This school is coming up. Test scores have risen as well as parent involvement. The businesses in the neighborhood are excited about the changes they see and are working with us. Claremont is on the move. The teachers are happy. Discipline is being enforced. Watch out Edna Brewer and Westlake - Claremont is hot on your heels and we will be a school of choice. Read less

Our child went from a 1.0 GPA at Claremont to a 3.0 at the new school. Yes, Ms. Chalk is very good at communicating issues both good and bad. Ms. Williams is also wonderful. Claremont Middle School is definitely a work in progress. We have a seventh grader whose experience last year was absolutely awful. ... Read more at this school can be terrible - low expectations, basically drill sergeants who neither foster a love of learning nor recognize it in their students. The principal 'talks the talk' but in the end does not act courageously. The school is paralyzed by district beaurocracy and some of the kids are terminally out of control. ... Read more new friends. He has outstanding teachers in Math, Spanish and English/World History. The school, like any in Oakland Unified, is not without its challenges, but together we are working to make it a better place. The teachers here are no different, they need our support. The PTA is no different it needs committed parent volunteers working together to improve the school. Most of all, the kids are no different, they need a positive environment in which to learn and grow. We believe Claremont provides that. Read less

I am a parent of a 7th grader who's GPA went from a 4.0 to a 2.5 and then a 1.0 without notification from the school. I asked for an ED plan and at this point I am still awaiting one. The school boast a wide array of after school programs (barber shop, music, arts, sports, dance, college level tutoring, spoken word...), 2 therapist, 2 after-school counselors, 2 vice-principals in addition to a Principal who has demonstrated great leadership and poise in midst of the financial and budget cuts. Students come from all socio-economic groups. The rich ethnic diversity of this school had taught my child the invaluable lessons in dealing with people from all walks of life...reflective of our diverse landscape. Advanced Placement
