I am a student at San Jose. I am currently a 7th grader and I love it here. I have been here for 2 years and had alot of fun. The teachers really care about there students and to what ever it takes to make them learn. They dont put up for the children not turning in there homework and not doing there
... Read more class work, they always focus on every child and make them learn what they need to know. They have a new proncipal, Jeff King, and he has made some excellent changes. I give this school 5 out of 5 stars! :) Read less

The teachers are always prepared to meet the standards of every child. Awesome programs, such as speech contests, track, cross country, mathletes, and so on. This is my third year at San Jose and I absolutely love it here!

Very disappointed in the way they taught my son who came from China and couldn't speak any English. They need a better system of teaching in this situation. There was one great teacher, Mrs. Krot, who understood his needs and was able to do a wonderful job with him. Mrs. Mendel also did a very good job.

THe teachers are amazing. They are always available for the kids for help with work or questions. Open comunication is a way or life at SJMS, teachers are very easy to get in touch with, email or phone. The teachers at SJMS really care about the kids.

This school's administration likes to believe that they are strict disciplinarians, but they are not. They are slow to respond to serious offenses and are ineffective when they finally do respond. The administration gives lip service to parent concerns and communication.

The two principals are absolutely wonderful. I have never seen two people that are more visible than these women. Their tireless energy and focus on education make San Jose a quality school. I am disappointed in the high rate of teacher turnover. My child has had several different teachers throughout

SJMS is a very tightly run middle school. Thanks to its principal, Deb Kubin, and a very energized staff, the programs at SJMS are only minimally distracted by the typical adolescent behaviors that is so common at other middle schools, thereby allowing the teachers to spend more time teaching and less

A perfect example is SJMS's 'TEAM' program which groups all the school's kids into multi-grade, teacher-led groups of 20-30 students periodically for team building exercises and group discussions around bullying and cooperation. SJMS is the only school in the NUSD using this program and it has worked wonders to reduce the incidence of bullying and improve the overall atmosphere for the kids. Academically, SJMS is on par with NUSD's two other middle schools and is one of the best schools in the county at working with ELL kids to bring them up to speed and into the main population. Advanced Placement
AP classes are college-level classes offered at the high school level. Once a student completes an AP class and passes a final comprehensive examination conducted by the College Board, the student earns college credit for the course. AP classes are specific and not to be confused with other higher-level classes such as honors classes.
Before/After School

Adult Education Classes
Programs offering GED or equivalent courses for adults within regular schools, whether classes are held during evening or daytime schedules.
English as Second Language
English language classes for students whose first language is not English.
