Since Hamilton expanded to incorporate a middle school, it has become a disaster. There is little discipline or respect. The bullying is out of control. The fourth and fifth graders are exposed to foul language, students wielding razor blades, fires in the bathrooms, etc. For one year, there were
... Read more no stall dividers in the boys bathroom, because the students had ripped them off the walls. There is trash everywhere. After two months, the school gave up on having the middle school students wear PE uniforms, because the kids refused to dress out. There are no lockers, because the administration does not trust the children to use them (that came from an administrator). After three kids and ten years at the school, we're out! Check the dates on most of the positive reviews. For many years, the school was very good. Before the middle school, I would have given it five stars. Read less

2012-2013 was my daughters 4th year at Hamilton and her 2nd year in the Academy program. Her progress has been outstanding, for example: going from a 3.6 to 6.4 level in reading. Both Academy teachers (Mrs. Smith and Mrs. Diaz) have been nothing short of spectacular. While personally not a huge fan of

The new principal, Mr. Hospadar is probably one of my favorite people at the school and Ms. Patty in the front office is always friendly and upbeat (no easy task when dealing with a steady stream of kids and parents in the office all day!). We're a Coast Guard family and have really found a home here in Novato. When I received orders for another year in my current assignment my first thought was how happy my daughter will be to learn she will get to spend another school year at Hamilton! Now, if I can only squeeze 2 more years out of the detailer so she can finish Middle School we'll be in business...... :) Read less

They can't get a handle on the bullying at this school. Students have no respect for teachers, volunteers, and especially other students. There is a lack of supervision at recess and the school looks terrible. Trash remains all over, while the janitor walks right by. If your looking for a wonderful school

I was concerned about sending my son to Hamilton when he started kindergarten. My concerns were based mainly on things I had heard from other parents in the community. However, we have been there for a year and a half and we love it! The school has a fantastic administrative team who goes above and

He has not only become a fantastic reader but he is also being taught important character lessons which are encouraged in the classroom, on the playground and by administration. The school also has provided him an excellent opportunity to take after school enrichment classes in art, science, golf, and the list goes on. He is extremely happy and I am very glad I did not get scared away from my neighborhood school without giving it the chance it deserves. Read less

* In 2011-2012 California used the California Standards Tests (CSTs) to test students in English language arts in grades 2 through 11; math in grades 2 through 7; science in grades 5, 8 and 10; and history-social science in grades 8 and 11. Middle and high school students also took subject-specific CSTs in math and science, depending on the course in which they were enrolled. The CSTs are standards-based tests, which means they measure how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of California. The goal is for all students to score at or above proficient on the tests.

were used in calculating these ratings. Other factors should be considered when comparing schools, including teacher
experience, academic programs, extracurricular activities, resources for special needs students, etc. These ratings are
not provided by the state Department of Education, which may have their own rating systems.
