This is a true neighborhood school (military families) and has a 'pleasantville' feel, but the school itself isn't that great. The only reason it's ranked #1 in this district is because a good 90 % of the students here have both parents with 1 or more degrees, most of which supplement their child's

As for the teacher my child has, I'm unimpressed. She's impatient and exacerbated most of the time and just hands out worksheets all day. She does manage to fit in 3 recesses, though! IIf I could afford private school, I'd pull my child out in a heartbeat. On the bright side, the PTA is great and does it's best to provide what they can for our kids. Read less

The teachers are still great but the principal(Ms. Kelly) has really turned out to be a huge disappointment. My family is very sad to see such a great school go downhill so fast. Maybe if Ms. Kelly was replaced next year, the new principal could turn it back into the school it was in previous years.

We are a military family and my children attended LaMesa from 2006 to 2008. The PTA was always wonderful. The principal was very caring. My children had excellent teachers with one exception. She was very caring, just not very aggressive enough with academics which is obviously highly needed. The

La Mesa has some of the worse office staff that I have seen. They are very rude and the new principle seems to not really be interested talking to a parent. The PTA is great but there are a lot of problems with La Mesa.

Wow, we already really miss La Mesa School. We move quite often, and no school has compared to La Mesa. The teachers, the Principal- Mr. Miller, and the PTA were fantastic! Any reviewer that doesn't give this school a top rating in all areas must be unhappy about everything in their life. The

We are a military family and moved into La Mesa (which is expensive for the area) so our child could attend this school. If I had to do it again, I would have lived in Monterey and rented a larger place and sent my child to one of the more affordable private schools. My child will not be returning

Unfortunately, we had a very negative experience with his teacher (safety issues, bullying issues, and failure to allow him to move ahead in curriculum, a chaotic and filthy classroom). We arrived right before school started and got the teacher that I later found out was most requested NOT to have. The principal was ambivalent, the office staff very rude. Students have high test scores because that is all that taught. PTA is great. Buildings are old. Try Carmel or Pacific Grove public schools. They are better. Read less
