I have children at GAIS, one in preschool and one in elementary school. Both of them love going to school and really like their teachers. Even though reading started in 1st grade, he was ready to learn and read in both German and English in no time. He now reads in both languages up to 2 grade levels

The preschool is play based but has many structured activities and are structured around units throughout the year, in which they learn about different topics, such as the five senses, families, etc. The teachers are very dedicated and many have been there for many years. We had excellent experiences with our children, both are now fluent german speakers. Teachers are dedicated and excellent. Both my children have so far loved their experience at the school and have excellent learning results. Because academics start in 1. Grade I see a love for learning in the kids.

very disappointed in this school. Lack of strong leadership who fails miserably on the communication front. No excuse for ignored emails. Also annoying is the passive attitude by preschool director to parents' concerns, especially in area of safety/health issues. On the plus side, the teachers are

Best for children who have at least one parent who is fluent in German. Not a strong support group for non-native speakers. GAIS has recently experienced a high-turnover of teachers (school lost 5 teachers within the last 9 months). The after-school care is mediocre at best. Mixing preschoolers with
... Read more older kids was always a concern (and some parents refused to place their preschoolers in after-school care as a result). Facilities are run down, but parents and staff volunteer to maintain it the best they can. The school does have one of the best outdoor play areas of ANY school in the Bay Area. It is fantastic. We did have 2 teachers who were absolutely terrific and adored by our child. Regardless of the cons, our son LOVED this school and ran to class everyday. He was fluent in German before the end of 2nd yr! Read less

My son has just finished his preschool & kindergarten years here. He has loved it ---- even jumps into the car every morning without me asking him! The teachers are super! For Pre-K & K, the school is play-based emphasizing conflict management & peer cooperation. Academics don't start until 1st grade
... Read more & then accelerates in 3rd grade. By 6th grade they are up to par with regular American Schools in all American subjects. But the school teaches German, French & Spanish too. 6th Grade adjusted SAT in 700's. After School activites are on-site & right after school --- really convenient for driving. Run like an elite country club. The school wants people who will be there for many years, and seem to want this commitment up front. Teachers are wonderful despite their low pay. If you do not have a lot of money this is probably not a good choice.

The German American International school is a real great school. Our 4.5 year old continues to learn and have fun. This is her 2nd year attending, and we've also now brought our 3 year old to the school. Both kids are now speaking German fluently, and have fun each and every day while learing both

Advanced Placement
AP classes are college-level classes offered at the high school level. Once a student completes an AP class and passes a final comprehensive examination conducted by the College Board, the student earns college credit for the course. AP classes are specific and not to be confused with other higher-level classes such as honors classes.
Before/After School

Vocation/Technical Curriculum
Vocational and/or technical courses offered within a comprehensive school, usually a senior high school.
Special Education Classes
A school or program within a school that provides services and training to students with moderate to severe mental and/or physical disabilities.
Adult Education Classes
Programs offering GED or equivalent courses for adults within regular schools, whether classes are held during evening or daytime schedules.
English as Second Language
English language classes for students whose first language is not English.
