The SAS program, or honor classes at this school is very diverse and challenging. Not only are the classes fulfilling, my daughter says that the students at this school are very accepting and there's a lot of healthful competition between the rival school, Palisades HS.

As a student at University HS, I really find the experience here at Uni to be enriching; all the teachers and students are very accepting and friendly. I'm in SAS so the classes are more rigorous and the teachers push you a lot. Plus, it's a really safe school, we barely have any fights here, probably

Coaches here understand that need and work with students so they can do all the things that they are interested in. Students want to feel safe as much as the administration wants to keep the school safe, so they work together to try to handle confrontations before they get out of hand. An example of this is the peer mediation class that teaches students how to help other students with their personal issues. Parent involvement is getting better. The school location is great, kind of hidden away. The academics are good but I was a little disappointed when my daughter couldn't get the help she needed when she struggled with geometry. Its a shame the test scores went down which made the school ineligible to receive incoming bussed students. The
... Read more college prep AVID program is fantastic. I wish they had AVID when I was in high school. As for the social atmosphere, my daughter's number of friends was somewhat limited because she wasn't a nerd, or into goth/punk-rock, gangs or being fake. She couldn't wait for the school year to be over so she could transfer to another school. But overall, it was a good learning experience for her. Read less

Advanced Placement
AP classes are college-level classes offered at the high school level. Adult Education Classes
Programs offering GED or equivalent courses for adults within regular schools, whether classes are held during evening or daytime schedules.
English as Second Language
English language classes for students whose first language is not English.
