I have to agree strongly, LPHS does get a bad rap! I was one of those people I must admit, we lived across the street from the school and I still sent two of my boys to another school. I believe that all schools have problems. La Puente High School has excellent teachers and has teachers that have perhaps given up because of lack of interest in students and lack of parent cooperation and participation. I attended 4 yr high school at LP and was also a teachers aide back in the 80's.

Alot of the parents perhaps are not so involved because of the language barrier and make no effort to participate in their kids education. We as parents need to stop blaming the teachers for our kids failures and take responsibility. Read less

I'm a former employee at LPHS and would like to share my perspective. The positives are... 1.) University academy creates small-learnin- groups for college-bound kids 2.) Family-like atmosphere among the staff/students... unlike other schools. 3.) Many great and dedicated staff members ( Monarrez,

The negatives are... 1.) The school needs to recruit new teachers aggressively 2.) The tardies are out of control. Need tardy sweeps! 3.) The culture set by students is horrible! Too many 'bad' kids can be overwhelming. Just ask the security guards. 4.) Many parents don't speak English so it can be a challenge to communicate with parents about their kids' progress/behavior. 5.) LPHS facilities is outdated. 6.) The school looks vacant 30 min. afterschool. Read less

La Puente High School. I am an 04' alumni and I for one can say that this school had failed to meet my expectation of what I would consider a good High School. Environment was poor all throughout my time attending this school. Constant construction ruined the ideal environment for learning. Though understandable
... Read more that improvements were being made at the time, it never made sense to me that construction workers would indiscreetly walk and work on the school grounds almost constantly for all four years of my High School years. Rooms and buildings were poorly kept. Everything about this school had a certain feeling of abandonment, from the antiquity of the library downright to the 20 year old fences harboring around its vicinity. I am however happy, that from the looks of it outside, there is some improvement. I just really am not sure about the quality of education here. _fishius Read less

As a former student I feel that this school could have more potential if only parents and teachers had more involvement. There are a few excellent teachers and programs but most of the students are what create the school's limit. As stated before, it seems that administrators have long since given up
