They have a beautiful campus-excellent teachers and offer AP and honors classes that are comparable to the private schools we have attended. The HBHS teachers are accessible during the tutorial period which is offered every day for students to go and ask questions or get extra help if needed.

Huntington Beach High School was one of my most fondest memories. It is where I created an academic path to my college dreams, and where I made life long friendships. For the most part, my teachers were incredible and knew what we were capable of and push us to the limit. I always felt safe and at home

My daughter graduated in '06, my son will graduate in '10. I have been (overall) very happy with HBHS, and have had timely responses from teachers about issues. My biggest complaint - hire more math teachers with above-average qualifications - Ms. Bojorquez can't do it ALL (& she is amazing!!!)

HBHS is clearly a great high school with a commitment to excellence for all students. We are committed first and foremost to academic success and have shown substantial growth on the standardized tests the past three years with special focus on teaching the underachieving students. The results have
... Read more been impressive as all subgroups of students have surpassed their academic growth targets. Further, we have added significant 'intervention program' to assist at-risk students. We have added two full-time counselors and increased our school nurse from half-time to full-time. This shows tremendous commitment on behalf our our Board of Education and Superintendent. HBHS is proud of our recent accomplishments. This week we were notified by the State Superintendent, Jack O'Connell, that HBHS has been selected to be a California Distinguished School. Congratulations to our students, parents, teachers and staff! This is something for all of us to celebrate. This demonstrates comprehensive, schoolwide, effective educational programs which meet the needs of our students. I am very proud of our teachers and their commitment to excellence in instruction. We are standards-based and provide powerful learning opportunities. Last year we received a six year WASC term of accreditation due to the effectiveness of our educational programs. Our Academic Performance Index has increased for three consecutive years growing from 727 to 783. This demonstrates significant progress across the board and we know we are headed in the right direction. Further, over 90% of our students pass the California High School Exit Exam on their first attempt in tenth grade and nearly 99% pass by the end of their senior year of high school. Again, we have great news to report to you. Our athletic programs are on the rise! We have many new on-campus coaches who are available during lunch, as well as before and afterschool. We have a renewed commitment to excellence in athletics for which we are reaping great rewards. Many of our athletic teams are now making it to the post-season which results in great school pride. Finally, our Academy for the Performing Arts program is second to none! The past two years we have received more that double and tripple the number of Cappy Awards of the next successful high school. HBHS is clearly the home of the finest performing arts program in the region and county. All in all, HBHS is a great place for students and staff. We are located on a very beautiful campus undergoing modernization efforts. We are building a brand new wing of 14 high tech classrooms which will be completed in the Fall and a brand new Black Box Theatre which will be completed next summer. Our historic auditorium will be modernized this summer with new seats, sound system, lights, paint, etc. Our gymnasium is being modernized as we speak, with a new floor and new bleachers. This is a great school, with great students and staff, and our parents show their commitment to excellence everyday with their tremendous support. As you can see, I am very proud of this great high school. Dave Linzey Read less

Teachers demonstrate a refreshing commitment to students and scholarship. In an age of apathy, our child's teachers break the stereotype.
