Carden Academy is a wonderful school. As said by other parents the building is not new and there is not a science lab. However, year after year students have placed in Honor's Science at many schools. I know last year in my son's class out of the thirty eighth grade students 27 placed at least in Honor's
... Read more Geometry. Fifteen placed in Honor's Science, and 27 placed in Honor's Literature at Mater Dei, Cornelia Connelly, Sage Hill, Edison, Marina, and Fountain Valley High. The teachers care and the administration care about the success of all children. Carden Academy is a WASC School. Carden Academy of HB has credentialed teachers, classrooms of approximately 20 students per class. The average SAT tests per class are in the 90% and above. The original school was built 50 years ago. The most recent building is 1984, newly carpeted and recently painted.
... Read more The interaction between teachers and students creates an environment of stimulation and learning. The Computer lab of 30 stations allows all students in the private school to work in the lab 2-5 days a class. They learn to type quickly, write reports, research the Web and create power points. A nurse is not on staff, however procedures are in place to take care of normal bumps and bruises. All parents are easily accessable as needed for bigger concerns. The H.B. library is just a few blocks from Carden Academy. All classrooms are fully equipped with at least 200 library books. Read less

The school does not have a school nurse,nutritious lunch,library or science lab. They do not participate any competitions either. The kindergarten is not perfect and we're disappointed because we have seen they won't add any new to their old method. The campus is old and should be upgraded.

Carden's preschool program is filled with creativity, fine art, foreign language, and skills development. On the positive side, Carden's main focuses are the basics of mathematics and composition/reading. Carden kids are defintely 12-18 months ahead academically of their public school peers. The administration/faculty is nice and helpful. We are not coming back next year because they lack some basics such as a bigger campus, library, cafeteria, science lab, updated computer lab, and a better emphasis on elective courses as well as extracurricular activities. If you have a gifted child, do not send them to this school. My child was not challenged enough. With good grades and test scores, students are given the choice to advance a grade. The school also does not have a library or science laboratory for gifted students to research personal academic endeavors, nor are they offered a variety of elective academic courses in the Junior High. My child was extremely bored and disliked going to school. I was disappointed in how this affected his attitude for learning so I moved him to another school. ... Read more time to remediate the child. Students who graduate 8th grade generally go into Honor's Algebra or Honor's Geometry. Some students have actually placed in Honor's Algebra II Trig as freshmen. The entire schools curriculum is set up to create maximum success in the child. Hand's on Administration under the excellent leadership of Edith Hanlon and Mrs. Carol VanAsten steer this staff in an upward direction. Advanced Placement
AP classes are college-level classes offered at the high school level.
