As a teacher at DPHS I can say that the school does an excellent job of servicing its honors-level students. They can choose from GATE, AP, and IB classes--the instructors in these courses are all incredibly dedicated and highly qualified.

As a senior I have enjoyed coming to this school since I was a freshamn. The academics are really great, the teachers teach very well. The drama department is alive with great musicals and a great teacher Clark Sayre. The sports program is good they are somewhat strict about who gets on the teams. I
... Read more have been the mascot for 2 years and I wish that the school administration would let the lower classmen do the mascot. Parent involvment is really good, the parents are helping out with a lot of things the staff probably couldn't handle by themselves. Read less

Dos Pueblos is a great school providing quality education, varied clubs, and extracurricular activities in sports, music, performing arts, engineering, academic decathalons, moc trial, etc. The close proximity of colleges and engineering firms have greatly benefited the school. However, because of
... Read more the size of this school, sometimes the average student may feel too intimidated to get involved or to excell. The PTA is a strong participant at this school and raises a lot of money for the teachers and students. However, despite the large number of students, a small percentage of parents are involved. This may be due to the fact that more and more mothers are working. A growing concern in the community is gang violence. However, a Deputy Sheriff is assigned to patrol the school four days a week. This year great strides have been made to diminish the gang presence. Read less

Advanced Placement
AP classes are college-level classes offered at the high school level. Once a student completes an AP class and passes a final comprehensive examination conducted by the College Board, the student earns college credit for the course. AP classes are specific and not to be confused with other higher-level classes such as honors classes.
Before/After School
"Extended day" programs where the school day is extended before and after school to accommodate working parents. These programs should not be confused with common after school clubs or athletic activities.
Gifted and Talented
A school system may identify 10% to 15% or more of its student population as gifted and talented. A brief description of each area of giftedness or talent as defined by the Office of Gifted and Talented:

Vocation/Technical Curriculum
Vocational and/or technical courses offered within a comprehensive school, usually a senior high school.
Special Education Classes
A school or program within a school that provides services and training to students with moderate to severe mental and/or physical disabilities.
Adult Education Classes
Programs offering GED or equivalent courses for adults within regular schools, whether classes are held during evening or daytime schedules.
English as Second Language
English language classes for students whose first language is not English.
