My child started here enrolled in GATE and had always been good at math. Within 2 years he was floundering and had to be moved to another class. Without even telling us, they moved him out of the gate program. His self confidence is nonexistent at this point. Also, every year, first week of class,

BVMS is an example of a great middle school attempting to meet the needs of many different ethnicities, educational levels and social-economic levels all at once. The teachers, for the most part, are very genuinely concerned about the student's progress towards a higher education. There are a few teachers

With the exception of some very young gang member activity in the parking lot before and after school, this is a good school. Our son has gone to this school for over 1 year now, through 6th grade and now is 1/2 way through 7th grade. The school is very good and we have found the teachers he had were very good. BVMS is a new school in this area. This is it's second year. My daughter has enjoyed school and done very well in her academics since she's been here. We transfered over from Poway School District (BHMS) and were a little nervous at first. Her teachers are great! In fact, all of the staff is great -

This school has physical ed every day instead of only every other day as at BHMS. We feel the quality of the academic programs are high. They offer art, dance and drama after school. The only negative is that they don't offer orchestra but they do have band and chours. Our daughter plays cello...All in all we are very satisfied with our daughters middle school experience at Bear Vally Middle School. Read less

Bear Valley is a school that opened with big promises, but fell far short of our expectations. Its first year was frustrating because of construction issues and because it was a new staff trying to 'jell' without the resources and roadmap of an existing culture. Students and staff came from many different

Academically, teachers faced challenges because of a huge cultural and socio-economic diversity in the classrooms. The 'village' system, designed to create smaller, intimate learning environments, ended up being exclusionary, and actually alienated different groups of students. There are some excellent teachers at Bear Valley, and the administration pushed hard to create a positive spin, but the first year was tough. Read less
