The school does well despite severe budget challenges. Very diverse, solid teachers, a friendly accessible place for students and teachers. The block scheduling is a bonus to teachers and students who both need and enjoy a longer class period to absorb the material.

My two chikdren transferred from private school this year. One is a freshman, the other a junior. I was pleasently surprised by the culture of the school and its course offerings. My older daughter graduated from ECHS last year and my younger one attends now. They have had many excellent, caring, inspiring teachers there, especially in History, English, and math. There is a lot of school spirit among the kids and it is truly a diverse group. The dance program is outstanding.

Both my children graduated in 2005 and 2002 and both are attending UCLA and UCSD. This is a great school, not to be undermined. Great for diversity, great teachers who care. Despite school district struggles, the staff has a great soul and great skills to boot. Very supportive parent/community too.

I am very pleased with ECHS because my daughter received a good high school education from it and she is going to a UC. Her school counselor and her college counselor gave her guidance and confidence that she needed to succeed. She was also in the school bands which are excellent music programs.

Though known as an urban school, I was educated here and went on to complete a graduate degree. I learned a lot about life here, in and out of the classroom. Give ECHS a try, it's a worthwhile life experience for any student.
