How is the discipline related to what grades students earn? If anything, DHS needs more parents to help their kids do the right thing and stop making excuses for bad behavior--I think there is always room for improvement but the staff is on the right track--join PTSA or school site council and help-don't

This school won the California Distinguished School award for 2007. A lot of money was spent to improve the school grounds and it is now a beautiful, award winning school.

I have to disagree with the March 26 review. Both the principal and male asst. principal are very visible, and work with students and parents proactively. The school has been on an upward climb, and continues to grow academically. I am happy that my child is doing well, thanks to all of the assistance

This school has had many excellent teachers in the past, but it does not know how to hold on to them. Most of the teachers that remain are well prepared to teach the average student. If you want your child to be prepared for college, Duarte is not the right school. AP and honors classes are a joke and
... Read more the work load may be heavy, but it is all busy work. The clubs and activities are underfunded and not paid attention to. The school doesnt put on any productions of theatre for this reason. Also, many great coaches of various teams have left for the same reason. On the plus side, the school os small and intamate, and you learn to overcome adversity. Read less

Advanced Placement
AP classes are college-level classes offered at the high school level. Once a student completes an AP class and passes a final comprehensive examination conducted by the College Board, the student earns college credit for the course. Vocational and/or technical courses offered within a comprehensive school, usually a senior high school.
Special Education Classes
A school or program within a school that provides services and training to students with moderate to severe mental and/or physical disabilities.
Adult Education Classes
Programs offering GED or equivalent courses for adults within regular schools, whether classes are held during evening or daytime schedules.
English as Second Language
English language classes for students whose first language is not English.
